ESPN - Body Issue

On page 64/65 and on 1/6 covers there is a pretty cool background/foreground effect with what appears to be smoke that has a rainbow look to it.

does anyone know how this is done?

I was actually thinking of using smoke/fog in a portrait last night, it seems walmart has $40 machines online.

I bought teh fog machine, some fluid, and flash gels. I put the flash up in the back of the studio, with each flash in a ziplock to be safe, and turned the machine on. the fog seemed to want to travel to the front of the studio where the camera was. the look was ok, but nothing compared to the magazine cover. perhaps post will help me get it to where I want it.

at least Im only in for $60 in materials.
