Anyone ever use a 35mm L lens for sports at all? If so, how do you use it? I've been thinking about getting one, but worry that'd it sit idle too much for me during basketball season.

I had the 35L. Honestly, I sold it pretty quick. It was not wide enough for most applications and too wide for most applications. It was almost like it didn't have a good feel to it. For example, It was too wide for most sports, except for basketball. But for any down court action or action at the top of the key, it was useless. Also, it is too wide for most field sports. One thing I loved the 35L for is portraits, almost as much as the 85L. Both were perfect for my application of the lenses. But from what I felt, I think that there are better choices that would be more fitting.

I never use it for sports. Don't even carry it. I generally bring the 14L or 16-35L for a wide shot of the stadium. 70-200 for near action and 300L or 400L for far action.
