Hey gang,
Just heard from a somewhat reliable source (works in a reputable camera store here in Adelaide) that there is already a successor to the 1DX planned for a September release. The limited details he has heard direct from Canon are: • Full frame • A "slower" version of the 1DX - apparently the 1DX has the amazing burst rate it does as it was aimed squarely at a release for the Olympics. • around the $4000 ($AUD) mark Anyone else confirm this? Or add to it? It might be worth holding off on the 1DX purchase to see what this is all about?

So a 5D3 in a 1D body?
Possible, although I don't know how the market would react... |

1. the 1DX was announced October 2011, released June 2012
2. the 1-series line usually gets updated every 3 years give or take

Just spoke again to my contact, and yes it's a higher mp full frame body but those are the only details they can confirm. Whether it's a 1D series or something entirely different, only time will tell?

There was rumors about that, it being a 5dx of sorts...
I don't see it happening, theres only soo many cameras canon can release at once and keep production going, 5d3, 1dx, 1dc, 1C or wtv thats called. Theres been alot of new cameras from canon out recently including tons of new lenses, i doubt anything new gonna happen for the next two years at least. The 1dx isn't even properly shipping yet. |

update: so I've heard it is actually the 1Ds MkIV and its due for release early next year, not September.
it's due to have the same ISO as 1DX and 32mp.

i think your friend might be pulling your chain. it doesn't make sense to announce the replacement of their flagship model three months after it's released. canon has never done that before. secondly, canon has made it rather clear that they have consolidated the 1D and 1Ds series lines. for them to turn around and release another 1Ds series, when they've already publicized the confluence of the 1-series models into the 1DX.. it doesn't make any sense.
