Default Where to travel in September?

I'm looking for a place to travel to in September for a ~10 day photo vacation

In April I went out a Southwest road trip and it was amazing!

I was thinking about Iceland but it's off the peak season. I really would like to go in Summer - maybe next year?

I'll be traveling on my own, so I definitely want somewhere that's safe for a single female to be...

I also thought about Iceland. The icebergs and whale watching will be gone, but there is definitely still plenty of photo opportunities. Not sure what it's typically like in September...

Any other recommendations? I'm really open to shooting just about anything besides wildlife because I just don't find it as interesting to travel somewhere for that purpose (besides african safari, which I fully intend to do!)

So, who can help me out with location suggestions?

..ah, but you forgot to mention the rainy season and those humidity numbers

dont know where youre traveling from but about 3 years ago i went to NYC (just north of broadway) over labor day and the weather was fabulous and the shooting opportunities immense...

went with the family and wasnt doing the high-end gear thing yet (again) so most of the shots taken were touristy snapshots but i absolutely loved it...

great people shots, great building shots, great way to get around (bus, subway, cab or best way on foot)...

would love to go back...

I went to Iceland last year in early october. We only spent 3 nights in Reykjavik. When we got there the weather was terrible, the next day it was somewhwat rainy as well. Still it was nice to drive through this moon landscape!

I was able to find a weather forecast map that showed it should be relatively OK on the south shore, so we ended up driving there for the 3rd day. It was amazing! On the last morning we went for a short drive through some fjords on the north side of Reykjavik. Although in the wind it was still a bit cold, but the views were magnificient. I almost had to drag my brother into the car because we needed to catch our flight
I would imagine that september has better weather overall. The prices will probably be lower then july/august.

We went to Iceland as stopover to New York, which was our primary destination for the holiday. It turned that our ticket with Iceland air including the stopover was in that period the cheapest ticket I could find to NY.

It sounds like you are in northern america since you are referring to the south west?

An idea could be to do a similar trip: stay 3-4 night in iceland and then another week somehwere in a european city. The weather in the netherlands is usually pretty good in september, I like the colours of the sky better then in mid summer.

Rainy season now, but it's been generally drier than previous years. It's not as if someone turns to taps on at the start of the wet season and off at the end.

As a photographer, the wet season is the best for photography. Absolutely wonderful lighting.

I am in Toronto, Ontario, Canada...

I was also thinking about going to Newfoundland - I hear it's beautiful. Not sure how it is in September, though. Probably going to Banff in winter.

I would like Iceland but I feel like it's better to go in the heart of summer... especially for photography

I haven't been to NYC or Chicago... but I feel like I would rather go other places first... Maybe those could be long weekend types of trips...

That also sounds like a brilliant plan, you could visit Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP and maybe Badlands NP. (going a bit more east)
I visited Yellowstone in early september 2008, during daytime the weather was perfect, at night we had frost already. Yellowstone itself has so much photographic opportunities that you might just spend a whole week there.

Cool, I visited Toronto three times, last was in May this year
I imagine it would be possible to do a roadtrip to Halifax from there as well?

Sounds like at this moment you are more interested in nature/landscapes then cities?

Chicago is also highly recommended!

I used to think that way about NYC, but I spent a weekend there in April (although for a reason other than photography) and I had to change my mind. There's lots to photograph, and so much else to do if you have just about any other interest in culture that NYC can cater to. A long weekend isn't nearly long enough imo.
