I love how that turned out, I will have to try that myself.

Glad you liked it ... The idea came to me because we had the shutter totally closed at night and then my girlfriend started opening it (it's a window with a crank handle so it opens slowly) and the spots of light started coming slowly down the shutter, it looked really cool.

I recall these shutters from the 9 years I spent living in Europe. They were excellent for letting in just as much light as you wanted/needed. Unfortunately they are very rare to find in North America where we typically use blinds and/or curtains.

They are excellent. Guaranteed lie in with them right the way shut - or you can set them to wake up with the sun which I generally do on the weekends. The ability to keep out the light also comes in very handy to stop the house becoming a greenhouse in the summer.

Also very rare in the UK, about the only time I saw something of this design was for securing a cigarette counter in a corner shop. I'd miss them if I moved back.

Caught this one last night through my back door window on the way to bed. First snowfall of the year. Big heavy flakes and no wind.
