Default Question about S400

Hi all, I ordered my S400 a few days ago and eagerly waiting for its' arrival. I noticed some users complaining of an E18 error when turning the camera on. How many of you experienced this error and if you get it, does that mean the camera needs to go back or does it eventually start to work again? How bad is this error and what does it mean? I read something about the lens getting stuck when extending but dont know the exact details.

I had the G3 but returned it because it was too big and a pain in the butt to carry around. I don't really play with all the manual functions so it was a bit overkill for me. How does the S400 compare to the G3 in picture quality? I heard that the CCD sensor is the same as the G3 but dont really know what that means. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't give you the entire answer you're looking for, but I can say that I'm very satisfied with my S-400. I think that the picture quality, especially outdoors, is very good. I'm still a little inexperienced with it, but I keep practicing.

I've never had an E-18 error or any other error for that matter - the camera so far has worked just fine.

I recently purchased a S400.

Only one complaint, it has that stupid rattling sound that bugs me. Supposedly people are saying its the orientation sensor, but when the camera lens retracts, it sounds like somethings not right...

Otherwise, everythings a-ok

Strangely, its noisier than the S-230. But it takes good pictures for such a small, portable camera. the rattle when you shake it is the orientation sensor. The lens and focus system do make some motor sounds, but that also should be normal. What does yours sound like?

I just got my S400 in the mail yesterday and tried my camera. When I tried to take a photo the e18 message came up and then it shut down. I'll be calling service on Monday when then open. Joe

Sorry to hear you got the E18 message. When I got my camera, charged the battery and turned it for the first, I held my breath hoping not to get that damn message. Luckily I didn't. Sorry to hear you did. I would go back to the store and exchange it. I dont see the point of having to FIX a brand new item. Good luck
