I took a video clip of my grandson's little league game and tried to e-mail it as an attachment to my daughter. It took forever to send and then it came back as not being able to deliver. I sent it to my own computer at work and it got there o.k.. The file size is 2.4Mb. Do you think the problem is on her end(she does get regular e-mails).Is there a way to make the file smaller. By the way,I was very impressed with the quality of the clip.It was my first attempt and I even edited it a bit.

Generally speaking, e-mails should be less than 2mb because some internet providers and companies limit the size so people aren't clogging the systems with huge amounts of data. This may or may not be the case here, but it is a pretty safe bet.
As far as shrinking the file size, what program do you have for video editing? Quicktime, adobe products (premiere + after effects), microsoft movie maker all have the ability to compress the video to make them smaller.

Thanks Skip, I think you are right. I'm sure my e-mail at my office is not restricted and that's why it went through o.k.. I have Quicktime to "view" videos and the Adobe software that came with the G3. I don't know if either of them can compress video. I'll check when i get home. Thanks so much.,Art

I use the "pro" version of Quicktime to edit video clips. There is a feature similar to "Save for the Web" feature in Photoshop Elements. You select the approximate bandwidth (56K, ISDN, T1) and quality and Quicktime will save the video in the appropriate size. A full length, 30 Mb video can be compressed to about 1 Mb and still be viewable.
I sometimes save the videos in a slightly reduced quality (5 Mb or so) and upload them to a personal web page and send a link to it in the e-mail. |

That's even better,I have Photoshop Elements. As far as bandwith,do I put in the bandwith I'm using or the bandwith of the person I'm sending it to? I'll try it tonight. Thanks

Back to the drawing board(literally). I have Photoshop 5.0 Limited Edition(it came with the G3). I don't see that it has the capability to compress a video clip. Is there simple software available or should I consider a web site that I could link someone to?

I'm sorry, goldrush, I think I misled you...
I meant that Quicktime PRO has a feature analogous to the "Save for the Web" feature for downsizing video clips. It's Quicktime PRO I use for managing video clips, not Photoshop. Sorry for the confusion. ![]() |

That's o.k.,no problem.I only spent a little while trying to figure it out in the Adobe that I have. I use Outlook as my mail handler and have had no problem with files this size. Both the people I have tried to send this to use Yahoo! and I think they have a 2 meg cap on e-mail. I'll check out Qicktime Pro as well. Thanks,Art
