Default Best Printer

I have an S45 and am looking for a high quality printer. Any suggestions? Would a Canon printer give any advantages over HP?

the only way that someone would want to be restricted to only canon printers is if they planned on using the "DirectPrint" feature of their camera, which is printing without a computer, else, they should just get the best printer available for their budget

My opinion: we had one of those specialty printers with the card slots and lcd screens so we could print without using a computer, but we found that we NEVER used it...EVER. I mean, most photos require cropping, adjustments (even a simple "Auto Layers" in PS7 can drastically improve a picture) and so we still had to edit them on our computer. We did use the slot for a while as a card reader, except that it was slower than our normal one, so that was ruled out. In the end, the printer died and we needed a new one, so we went and got a Canon i850, which has done better than our old Epson 785EPX and is just sooo simple. There's two buttons, and the USB never fails on me (I had issues with the epson's usb..it'd mysteriously scream on my screen that it had lost its usb connection while printing) and in addition, the canon is soooooooooooooooooooo much quieter...there's even a quiet mode if you think it's too loud..which it isn't. And compared to the clunky noises of the epson, it's a godsend (and much much much quicker too)......

ok, end of MY printer saga.

I have the Epson Photo 820. Today it can be bought for around $50US. It has a 6 ink color system with 720 x 2880 dpi more than enough to produce photo quality level prints. Best of all Non-Epson brand ink cartridges cost less than $5.00US, black or color.

So in the end the printer is inexpensive and the ink is inexpensive. The printer can produce some great photos. Also, Epson has plug-in for Adobe Photoshop to help with color matching. One last thing the printer is USB 2.0 compiant. Full 8x10 photos don't take all day to print.

I can't think of a better deal.

I have the Canon i550 for my S400 and it works very well. I know it isn't the top printer but I've read on tom's hardware that the i850 and i950 are the best printers out there and it seems to be the case (i work for best buy).

I bought a i470D at Best Buy at the recommendation of the Canon representative - it should work out fine.
