This weeks theme is extreme exposure time. I would like to see photos with either a very short or very long shutter speed. The winning photo will use the extreme shutter speed to create an effect that makes the photo unique and enjoying to look at. I won't be judging on how "extreme" the shutter speed is, but rather the effect that was created. Good luck and have fun!

Please submit one photo per person. EXIF info and your photographs name in the subject line are all that is needed. Simply follow the below posted rules and let your submission speak for itself.

This challenge begins when posted, and will end at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time Monday, 3 September 2012. Winner of this challenge will be announced shortly thereafter.

Standard Rules apply:
Photo Submissions:

1. Camera - Any Canon DSLR Camera
2. Time - any on-topic photo taken at any time is eligible, although photos that have won other competitions should NOT be entered.
3. Size - Externally linked, or embedded image up to 150kb and 1024 on the long dimension Please visit Image Posting Rules for more info.
4. Post-Processing - do whatever you like and the host will decide if it works.
5. Posting - * ONE PHOTO per photographer in each challenge.* Photo Name in the message subject line.* Camera model & lens used.* Notes -- post brief EXIF data including ISO, shutter speed and aperture used.
6. Commenting - No commenting during challenge. When the posting is closed and a winner has been declared, comments can be made in this thread.
7. Keep it clean, and both Family and Work safe.

Wow, great job everybody! I was really excited to get the chance to pick a winner but wow, this is hard. I'll give some thoughts on each picture and then announce the winner. I am very far from knowing a lot about photography. So I am sure there are going to be some details I miss in the photos, I apologize in advance for this. Here we go.

Maureen Souza - Temple at Dusk
I imagine this photo in a photography book under the heading," Best time of day to shoot". The sky is great, the building impressive, and the moon! I love it. I get a little distracted by what I think is barrel distortion, but other than that great job!

Nature Nut - Coming in for a landing
I have never attempted a shot like this and I can't imagine it is easy to get. I really love that you gave a perspective that is impossible to see with the naked eye. I am drawn to the beautiful yellow shimmer throughout the bird.

Flo - Piper's Lagoon

This looks like it could have been taken right up the road from my house! I definitely am reminded of home with this picture. The buoy, gull, float plane... I love all the details and the reflections on the placid water are great.

1Tanker - Go with the flow
This photo looks like it was taken in the cold, I hope you had a jacket on! Reading through the EXIF and the filters you used I feel like you really thought about what you wanted from this shot, and it worked out pretty well! From the few stream photos I have taken I have always been in the 1 second range. I can see what happens when you go for long. The water gives you a lot more to look at. The foreground with the shelf is exciting, and I like the background as well. Great job!

sandwedge - Iridium Flare
Okay, I was sure that this was a photo of the Starship Enterprise going to warp speed, until I saw the exposure time ;-)a Cool shot! I had to look around on the net for a bit to figure out what an iridium flare was. I have the same lens and camera and I will definitely be trying to get a shot of one of these, hopefully I can get one that looks half as cool!

teekay - Running The Bath
I really like this shot. There are so many familiar details to look at. Who would have ever thought that something you see everyday could be so interesting? Apparently you did, and now that I see it, I agree with you :-) Way to make this work! I also really like the lighting and am curious on how you put that all together.

jeev - Palace Enterance
And with the last photo of the evening, jeev. So jeev... I noticed a small change in the photo at the last minute there, and I'm not really sure if that's okay or not :-) Either way, Great shot! I feel like that wasn't an easy shot to get. It's one of those shots where you have a beautiful moment to capture but there's so much going on it's really difficult to pull off. I see several things that could lead ones eyes to distraction, but you have done a great job of hiding them. Nice job.

And the winner is (drum-roll for effect):
jeev - Palace Enterance

Very close runner-up:
1Tanker - Go with the flow

This has been a lot of fun for me. Thank you everybody for the wonderful photos!

Yay to jeev & tanker!!! And great first hosting job, Matrim, thanks! I am not a big fan of night shooting but when we were on our way to Yellowstone, we spent the night in Salt Lake City so I practiced Live View on my camera at Temple Square. I could not figure out how to get those spires to look straight, though; maybe a wider lens would have helped?

Matrim33 great job on all the detailed analysis. Some nice entries here. I did not expect to win I had posted just minutes before close.

Matrim33 you are right I had some challenges with this shot, had to use the protective grills for focus light as the tripod. There was lots of crowd movements too. Thanks!!

I will post the next challenge soon.

Congratulations to jeev and to 1Tanker who I really thought would walk away with the top spot (also inspired me to invest in an ND filter).

It was a last minute desperation shot as I lacked inspiration (and ND filters) for long exposures. I just handheld a LED flashlight in pitch dark, tried a few shots, and picked the first half-decent one. It's not a keeper
