"I quit smoking dope"
|
I was out to dinner with some friends of mine, the usual Christmas alloted time to exchange presents and complain about how were not ready for Christmas and we got talking about Christmas movies. Now, I'm a movie person. I love the classics, musicals, independent flicks, big blockbusters in general if it's a movie I'll watch it. But, I've never seen "it's a wonderful life". I've seen A Christmas story, White Christmas, every version of Miracle on 34th St. But I haven't seen "it's a wonderful life". Here's my question, what's your favorite and most hated Christmas movie and why? what was the movie that you watched every year as a little kid. My favorite was Holiday Inn because my grandpa had a whole Bing Crosby collection and I would eat carmel corn with him on christmas eve every year and watch it. There are no wrong or bad answers. I'm just curious, and if you live on the other side of the world are there different movies than what there are here?? Sari.

The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (animated) ... made me laugh when I was a youngster, and it still makes me laugh. The Jim Carrey version had a few funny moments, but the original is a classic.
I still enjoy the Charlie Brown Christmas, too ... entertaining and has an important message.

Great Question, and a tough one too..
It's A Wonderful Life and Christmas Story are it as far as 'oldies'.. Also the old animated Rudolph, The Grinch, and Charlie Browns Christmas.. As far as the 'newer' movies I liked, Christmas Vaction, The Grinch (Jim Carrey), and Bad Santa..The Origional "Home Alone" was based around christmas time, was an decent movie also.. I think there have been a few of bad christmas movies..I can't really remember them, probably becuase I was told ahead of time that they were bad.. Personally I don't like the Tim Allen movies, his TV show was great..But those "Santa Claus" movies sucked..

As a proud iconoclast, my favorite Christmas film is Die Hard (the original with Alan Rickman).
When forced to choose a "traditional" film, it would be Mircle on 34th Street, espcially the scene with the Sweedish refugee girl. Othewise, the George C Scott version of Christmas Carol. Oh, lets not forget Scrooged, where the character Frank Cross had a banner in his office stating: Cross (n) - That to which people are nailed. Rad

If I want to cry, I watch "Holiday Innn."
If I want to laugh, I watch "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." (I know, I'm a sick puppy!) |

A Muppets Christmas Carol is my favorite because it is really close to the original Dickens with the weirdness of the Muppets. Michael Caine was brilliant and the songs were wonderful. I cried.
My least favorite has to be Christmas Shoes, I'm sorry. It was so bad. And why is "My Favorite Things" a Christmas song? SuzyView |

I've enjoyed A Christmas Story since I was a tiny little kid. Also, we've always watched Laurel and Hardy's March of the Wooden Soldiers. That's about it for me.

Christmas Carol is an outstanding classic. My favorite version is the relatively recent one with Patrick Stewart.

I saw Patrick Stewart perform A Christmas Carol as a one-man show on Broadway many years ago. He did all the parts and it was brilliant. That's what inspired the TV version. And March of the Wooden Soldiers was a must in my family with we were little. Great choice!
