Default Hi, Computer Upgrade

Okay so I have money and I want to do some upgrades for my computer. I am thinking a new moniter, or a video card. What do you guys think the best upgrades you can do for a system are?

What do you have now? Processor, memory, vid card, etc.

Between monitor and vid card I'd go vid card but it would help to know what's in your box now.

I agree unless your looking at gaming get a good high grade LCD monitor.

I game with my Samsung SyncMaster 930B and love it. The contrast isnt as good as some others out there ... but it is most likely one of the best LCDs for gaming right now. I have no noticable shadowing in almost all games. Some games every so often are a bit harder on it but nothing disturbing. Image quality is great, but as stated before sometimes the contrast may be an issue so you will need to bump up the brightness. If your doing photo work go with something with a better contrast ratio. If any gaming, or moving watching will accur go with an 8ms LCD screen like the Samsung I have. Mine is a 19 inch, but they make other sizes for this series.

Your pretty good where you are. You could go for a larger monitor. But I would go for a vid card, a 9600 or 9800(if you want to stay with ATI) with 256mb of memory and 8 pipelines. On the other hand if you can install more memory on your motherboard another 512mb or 1gig won't hurt.

I believe the one I had for a while was the Samsung 913T. Very nice. 19" 8ms response time, 1280x1024, great picture. About $375 retail.

...picked up a Gateway 21" widescreen at 8 ms. 1680x1050 resolution..... not bad for a relatively cheap monitor.

If you can afford a new screen you can afford a Canon EF 50 f/1.4 USM. Think that will make more of a difference personally.

High Quality LCD's are becoming a lot more affordable ... while the higher cost of gas eats into our budgets.

15" monitor; I would go for the monitor and then a video card upgrade.
