My first attempt. I have found using ISO1600 gives a few too many trails for my liking.

That picture is just plain awesome, i haven't got to take startrails in awhile and miss it, it's just to humid out too much dew.

Thank you, Silverwolfpup! I'm excited to see what you come up with when you get back out there!

I have a ton of gear, but my gear is just a hammer.

Big tree in open field, very nice, can you get the polar axis in view?
I'd try a few from different viewpoints.

I have to say this is impressive, the tree adds some nice interest to the trails, how long was this exposure ?

I've done a few of these camping trails, so I'm guessing I can call this one a series now. LOL

Hi Silverwolfpup,

This were 65 15 seconds exposures. ISO 1600 f/7.1. All stacked using Dr. Brown's Stack-a-matic

Hi mtbdudex,

Next time will try to locate a more dark location at first. The directions to shoot were very limited since we had a lot light pollution from cities nearby. This angle contained the darkest sky but still a lot light shown after a 15 second exposure.

It's the best I could do with all the light pollution in this part of the world and not having my own transportation...

This is a stack of about 100 shots out of a 200-shot session. I decided the trail effect I wanted got overshadowed by the length if I tried to stack everything I had taken. Each shot is in its own layer in PS, with a gradually increasing amount of opacity to get the comet effect. The foreground (Arches NP) is lit with a 13-million candlepower spotlight, which gets waved around over the period of a few exposures. A few passing cars also added to the light source. Color of the foreground is almost natural, based on the altered white balance, but slightly heightened vibrance.

Is there a tutorial somewhere to this technique?

it's possible you could make an ACTION to somewhat automate this, but it will take time
