Default The Great Kiwi New Year Shoot\Swim\BBQ

Well time marches on.....so I thought I would revive this idea.

The plan is a casual afternoon shoot somewhere close to East Auckland. Then back to my place in Howick for a swim, then a bbq dinner and a few beverages or whatever on Saturday the 7th of January.

Who's coming?

Any ideas for what to shoot?

Hope to be back in akl in time (down in wn at the moment - family berevement just before xmas so we're not a particularly happy bunch of campers)

Will have a think about shoot topics though, the only thing that springs to mind is graveyards! sure you guys would like something more cheerful!

Sounds cool. For some reason the 7th Jan is sticking in my head. I'm almost scared of already got something on that day.

Also still nothing about my camera.
I phoned them last week reminding them of the Consumer Guarantees Act, and I said as it's a "Serious Fault", ie camera won't even take a single photo, it's up to me, the consumer to decide whether full replacement, repair, or full money back. So I said that, and then they said it's still in for "assessment" and as soon as they know the error, and whether it's user error or a camera fault, they'll then decide whether to follow my request. It's only been 20 days since the camera broke.

Sorry to hear about the bereavement, Duncan. Hope all is well.
If you need some extra Speights, I'm sure Tim is most willing to have a few drinks to ease your mind.

Thanks Warren,
have got Tims cellphone number so going to try & catch up with him at some stage. Interesting to hear your camera needing "assesment" it's not as though the problem was intermittant - sounds like delaying tactics to me, give them stick...

Looks like we have got a bit of interest....

So why don't we meet up at my place after lunch, say 1pm. Then we can car pool and head off to an undecided location to shoot for 3 or 4 hours. Then back for a swim, bbq, and a few drinkies.

BYO meat, drinks and a salad or desert. Families etc are welcome to join us for the swim/bbq/drinks. (Hey they can come to the photo shoot too if they want!)

The pool was 29 degrees yesterday afternoon so it should easily make 30 by next weekend as long as it doesn't rain all week!

Address is 26 Finnerty Ave, Howick.

Happy New Year everyone.

Just watch out for International Users you don't know getting your address.

I received a nasty something when sharing my address..
J/k

I'm actually still uncertain about that day.

I wouldn't mind taking the car I have at the moment...

Sounds good Scott,
hopefully we can head back to akl on Friday so will be there for sat. Dunno about taking photo's though, yesterday did some serious munting of the sensor so will have to drop it into Canon (ugh!) to get them to have a looksee. Might be a good time to pick up a second body I think...

Well I'm either looking at getting 1D Mk III replacement, or a 2nd 20D.

And instead of a Canon 100-400L, I'll probably get a Sigma 120-300 2.8. The sharpest telephoto fixed 2.8 lens there is! It's more expensive, very heavy, no IS, but a beast. And 2x extender works well for 240-600 and f5.6

Wazza it tock canon 5 weeks to fix the sensor on my camera, they used every excuse under the book, the tech was in training, he was on holiday, they were waiting on parts, it went on and on. i'm still waiting for my grip to come back, it's been hearly three months. Canon NZ service sucks. On the other hand my cousin has a D70s it had a stuffed sensor, T.A. McAllister (Nikon agent) fixed in in 4 days.

I've got the phone number for the service manager Paul Brill if you want it, give him heaps, he's south african so not to bright.
