Default Close Ups - How exactly?

I have been kickin around here for a bit and i see alot of close up MACRO shots, but when i try to do them i cant close enough without it being blurry, so i have to move farther away..

What settings, mode should I use to get as close as I can get to an object??

I have read the macro section in the manual, and i also think i read somewhere that a certain lens would help get real close also

oh one more question, if i buy the 58mm conversion lens, then any 58 mm lens will fit? or do they HAVE to be canon made?

I did the following photo on a tripod, about 3ft from the subject. Okay, it's a static subject in a controlled environment but the result is superb.

I have not used any additional lenses or filters with this.

I have since bought a set of cheapy close-up lenses but I keep messing up the settings and getting too shallow a DOF. (Keep selecting f2.0 instead of higher!)

Regards

Dave

hi,

i usually dont use the macro facility - i go for the MF option - have a look:

focused using the MF option at the front of the shot, used a wide aperture (Av mode f/2.0) and voila.

as far as the 58mm adaptor - no, ANY lens will fit so long as it is threaded at 58mm

hope this helps

A macro lens . I got one for free when I bought the camera. It might be something to think about:
Check out this shot. You can go even closer than that though.

agreed with the monetary comment - used to be £1=$2.6CAD and £1=£1.7, but nowadays i get $2.17CAD and $1US. sux cos i get most of my dvds from canuckland .

the 58mm is the size (diameter) of the lens, and the type of lens is a macro i.e. closeup.

hope this helps

I believe the macro lenses are the ones rated by how many times they increase the focal length. i.e. 2x, 4x, 10x...I can't wait to get a few and try 'em out!

if so i think im going to go with the 58mm

hi,

52mm is not done by canon but by lensmate (www.lensmateonline.com), but (and most people agree) the lensmate is way better - they also do a 58mm. i have the 52mm - it is cheaper overall as the filters are cheaper than then 58mm size.

hope this helps

yea, good call
but i think im still gonna go withthe 58mm, cause there is one particular filter/lens i would really like to get my hands on, and the only place i seen it was for a 58mm.

is there 2 conversion lens's? for the g3? or just one that fits both 52mm and 58mm?

hi,

well you could get the 52mm with a step up to 58mm. or you could get both 52mm and 58mm if you have the cash
