Thanks Roger. They are more of a "metal-billy/punk-abilly band. They definitely have the 'billy look - but I think that is more of a Rochester thing. The whole Psychobilly thing (Super Suckers, Rev. Horton Heat, etc.) took hold about 15 years ago here and never let go. Thank God it wasn't grunge that took hold! These guys did a Judas Priest cover that was phenomenal, complete with the rediculous shrieking. They were a fun band to see live, lots of energy, worth the $6 cover. Keep an eye out for my new Gaylord shots, they should be ready in a few days. I used to be in that band, and they're good friends of mine, so I use them as ginuea pigs for new techniques.

My friend - the amazing Trudy - used to DJ at the Bug Jar. Heck, maybe she still does. It's a fun place.

I know Tru-D! She's really just an aquaintence - everyone knows everyone in ROC. I'm not sure if she still works there or not. The Bug Jar still one of the only games in town for local indy bands, though in my opinion it's lost some of it's lustre. Still a great place, though.

I've always had fun every time I was there. Two of my very best friends live in Rochester so I'd pop in a couple times a year or so. It's a nice city.

Sure is. My only complaint is for the cold winters.

You sure get good pictures with minimal lighting ... I really like the focus on the tattoo in the second one!

Thanks Dwight! That was one where I really wished I had used a flash to enable a greater dof, like f/4ish. I think it would have been much more dramatic had his arm and face been clearly sharp. Plus, I'm beginning to think that flash is less mood killing when the image is converted to black and white. Just one more avenue to explore and learn about.

The second pic really rocks. I like the way the arms are in focus while the head is a bit OOF. It kind of directs you where the action is.

Nice shots! Great capture of atmosphere.
I think I disagree with the majority though: I think the focus whould have been better on the face in #2. (and I'ld darken the bass player(?) in the BG)

Thanks. I'm with you on the face. I think the solution to this is either accept the narrow dof, and decide what the focus is, ar go against conventional wisdom, adn use a flash. Persoally, I don't think that a flash is all that bad in the monochromatic renderings. It may even improve them. Charles Peterson seemed to prefer this method, and I will be experimenting with this soon. It cannot hurt to have more tricks in your bag.

Dude, those are nice!

Out here on the left coast, we'd call that "psycho-billy"!
