Thanks guys! I can't believe how close she let me get. The exif shows I shot this at 110mm (using the 70-200). I have more that I took from a different angle with my 300 on a different camera, and I will post them in a group from my trip to the NWR today later on. I have over 1000 files to go through, but I just loved the look of this one.

Great shot! I always find birds out there but have yet to get that close and have the camera ready at the same time. Maybe I'll head out there tomorrow.

Have a wheelie nice day!

Nice shot, but maybe 110 metres. 110 mm is 4 inches ;)

I was talking about focal length. I can see where that might have been confusing.

I was about twelve feet (~ 3 meters) away

Yes I agree. There were tons of both out there on Saturday, and I have a hard time telling the difference on the fly. After looking at several other pictures though, yes, it is a red-tailed. I have some really good close ups of this guy from my 300 2.8 that I will post up when I get them processed. I went out again today to a different area (A great way to spend Veteran's Day for this Veteran), and now have a few hundred more file to go through as well
