Default ACDSee 8 for Organization?

Are any of you using ACDSee 8 to organize your images? I've been playing with a trial and have mixed feelings so far. I've been using the Organizer part of PSE 3, and I really like it except for the sluggishness. Since I already have it, I'm a bit reluctant to shell out $50 for ACDSee. It certainly is faster, but I'm not finding much difference in features.

I see from your profile that you have a Canon dSLR. Have you considered Breezebrowser? It is an integrated browser/Raw converter with several built in editing functions, especially during conversion, including lens correction. A free trial for download along with several on line reviews of the product.

I use PSE4.0. Fell in love with it while using PSE3.0 (used with my IPOD photo). Works great and integrates nicely with PSCS/PSCS2.

Yeah, I really like PSE3. Maybe I'll just have to stick with it until I exceed its limitations.

I use BB for RAW files,. I have an old soft spot in my heart for ACDsee ... an app I first installed on a Win 3.1 Pentium-100 years ago...

I use version 4... it does not work with any RAW files but my old 10D files,. and even then it's hopeless,. but for all those little jpegs etc.. it's still the fastest organizer around.

Try BB.. it's great fro RAW files and seems to be the fastest RAW viewer out there. I consider it to be the ACDSee of RAW files.

It also has the genuine Canon RAW converter built in,. it does not have all the flexibility of DPP,. but it has some nice features.

One of it's unique features is it will extract the low res jepg embedded in ALL Canon RAW files,. yiu'll never have to shoot RAW plus small jpeg again .

I'll look at BB, although the reviews I've seen talk about problems with RAW conversion (e.g., http://www.sphoto.com/techinfo/rawco...ezebrowser.htm).

Bad link vjack - there is a ')' on the end of the URL that needs removing.

This one works: - I hope

BB is an image browser (thus the name), not really an organizer. That said, I use BB Pro as a browser & cull my shoots with it. Never messed with the converter as the UI is so cumbersome as to be unusable to me; I thought he used dcraw as the core not Canon's DLL. For organizing, I use IMatch--IMHO far superior to ACDSee.

I like the speed of ACDSee but on my system I occasionaly get a RAW file with very strange colors (maybe there is an update available I havent checked).
In a perfect world I would have the speed of picasa and the intuitive organisation power of Album.

Honestly.............. picasa from google KILLS all of those............ much quicker than CS2 bridge as well.

Organization has never been quicker........especially with large 8-20gig pics...

....and FREE.

What kind of structure do you use? I find the right panel of picasa kind of messy - with all the folders in a long long list. I would really love to use it more but i struggle to get it organized.

I am pleasantly pleased with Picassa's funtionality also. And the price can't be beat.

I started with Picasa and still use it when I want to browse through a bunch of files quickly, but have recently started using FastStone's Image Viewer, which (for me) presents a more organized folder structure and allows me to do more with my image files at one time. Nice part is that, like Picasa, it's free!
