Default XP Does not recognize camera - conflict with scanner

My Windows XP desktop would not recognize my A70. XP appeared to find camera, indicated installing driver for new device, but then gave a message similar to "driver did not install properly, new device may not work." Camera did not appear under "Scanners and Cameras" and under Device Manager the camera had a yellow exclamation point.

I called Canon tech support and was told to first unplug my scanner, reboot, and then connect camera. It worked! I was told from then on I could leave my scanner connected, as XP had now properly recognized my Canon, and that I would not have to unplug my USB scanner. That proved not to be the case. In order for XP to recognize my camera I had to unplug the scanner and reboot and then connect the camera.

I went back to Canon and asked if there was any further work around for the problem. I have been told no there is no permanent solution because Windows XP has a problem recognizing two "scanners" at the same time. For your info, please see XP Knowledge Base Article Q324756 at http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q324756. The gist of that article is:

You may not be able to install multiple Universal Serial Bus (USB) scanners in Windows XP and use them simultaneously. For example, when you attach two scanners to the Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports of your Windows XP-based computer, the first scanner that you connect is detected correctly; however, when you connect the second scanner, you may experience one of the following behaviors:
The second scanner is listed in Device Manager as "Unknown Device".

-or-
You receive the following error message (it is displayed next to the scanner in Device Manager):

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 3
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the Usbscan.sys driver cannot be used simultaneously by more than one scanner.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, connect and use one scanner at a time. To use the second scanner, disconnect the first scanner from the USB port, restart the computer, and then connect the second scanner. To use the first scanner, disconnect the second scanner from the USB port, restart the computer, and then connect the first scanner.

HOPE THIS HELPS Y'ALL.

Problem with Camera recognition on XP

I have a Canon A95 and am using Windows XP:
In order to have the computer recognize my camera, I had to unplug my scanner - reboot the computer- reconnect the camera - then it worked.

However - then the scanner didn't work. I had to disconnect the camera - reboot the computor - connect the scanner - then the scanner worked.

For me the problem was NOT with Window XP.

Today I installed a new driver in my Lexmark X83: Driver
# CJXP83LE

BOTH work beautifly now - AT THE SAME TIME!!!

I kinda scratch my head on this issue - am I missing something? I have always preferred to use a card reader - it's simple, fast, doesn't run down my camera batteries - and the camera's presence is not even needed. Thus there has never been an issue concerning the scanner.

What is preferable about hooking the camera directly to the computer?

I have my scanner and camera connected at the same time, the only USB conflict Iv ever had was my keybourd.

However I use a very ancient Twain32 driver for the scanner, importing directly into Photoshop, and I dont have any Canon drivers installed for my A80.
Instead XP simply recognises it as a camera, and I access it like it's a removable drive.
