I would like to physically go and watch a NASCAR race for the sheer spectacle of it. I'm afraid it bores me rigid watching it on Eurosport.

Cheers,

Simon.

Daytona is an amazing place. If Bernie wanted an F1 race on a Nascar circuit that would be quite impressive. I've done 3 laps of Daytona in one of the Richard Petty driving school things and it was great!

Been to a couple Simon and it isn't that much better. Most people seemed to be going for the day/night out and hadn't a clue about the action. I felt sorry for the photographers as they had very little scope to do anything other than wait for the accidents to happen.

Laguna Seca I enjoyed, apart from the blasted dust that got everywhere (at least it was borrowed equipment I was using). What surprised me was the very poor state of the track surface (2004), which wouldn't have passed muster for UK club events.

I think UK people should make as much as they can out of F1 as it does not have long to live at Silverstone. Despite 90% of the cars being built here (Champ and Indy too by the way) and the UK being the home of motorsport, we won't have the F1 GP for much longer unless the BRDC get their act together. Silverstone will be a business park in a few years time and the end of an era is in sight. Will I miss it, not really. I did one GP hot side of the fence and that was enough to last a lifetime. I didn't enjoy it, despite all the off track 'activities'.

How come you didn't like it? I always seem to thrive on the athmosphere of the bigger events, even if the action is lacking!

I'll be down there on all three days - I'll be on the normal side of the fence though unfortunately.

I am likely to be wearing a white tabard.

but will only be able to cover 2 full days. (as it stands at the moment anyway).

I know Mclaren will be there all 3 days, Montoya, Raikkonen and De la Rosa on duty.
Ferrari, Williams, Renault, BMW Sauber, RedBull and Midland are expected to be there too, (as far as i know).

Toyota are sheduled to be at Paul Ricard thoguh.

No worries, I'll be that side as well. I'm travelling over with a mate, probably get there for just after 9ish.

Anyone who wants to meetup for a chat and cuppa, drop me a pm

Very impressive photos in here, I thought you might like to see some from melbourne(06)- unfortunately there is a fence between me and the action and I'm still using a point and shoot - but I'm happy with what I ended up with Plus it was an action packed race!

I'm going on the 26th, I belong to the TT owners club and a few of us are going to be there.

I just live down the road from Silverstone and so its handy for me.

Just hope I can persuade my wife to OK my purchase of a 100-400L in time for the event

KenTT, ditto

From itv.com it appears we might have better access than previously?

Quote:
With just under two months to go until the British Grand Prix, why not whet your appetite by taking advantage of the free access to the big pre-event test at the end of April?

The traditional three-day test – scheduled this year for 25-27 April – provides F1 teams with an invaluable opportunity to attune their cars to the sweeping curves of the Northamptonshire circuit.

Six F1 teams have so far confirmed their attendance at the test: Renault, McLaren, Williams, Red Bull Racing, BMW Sauber and Midland F1.

A limited number of grandstands will be open to the public free of charge, allowing spectators to watch from many of the prime viewing locations that are often sold out when it comes to the British GP itself.

“The F1 test in April always attracts a big crowd and is extremely popular with younger fans or families who live close to the circuit,” said Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Limited.

“It’s a great opportunity for anyone who’s never been to the British Grand Prix to get a taste of F1.

“Fans wanting to come down can just turn up on the day.

“Silverstone is now one of the easiest circuits to get in and out of in the world, and we have plenty of car parking available for those planning on driving.”

As of last Saturday.... Luffield A, B and C grandstands have been knocked down. There are no roofs on any of the Copse grandstands... Woodcote and the Pit Straight grandstands look OK. I wouldn't hold your breath for any of these "prime viewing locations"
