I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but I just stumbled on this small excerpt at BJP (external link)

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later with the 5D3 around. It's a killer camera...my only gripe is with the finicky AF system. =]

It doesn't matter how big your camera is, it's how you use it!

If you look at the canon web page it now go's, in price order, 7D 6D 5D (nothing here in a $3,000 price range) 1D

I see a huge price point between the 5D and 1D
Maybe they'll introduce a 4D which will be between the 5Diii and 1D

There has been such a gap for many years.

I just bought my 5D2 two months ago, and I'd do it again today.

I had to carefully pick through that link until I realized that only Canon JP changed the line since the US site hasn't changed it yet, unless my cache/cookies haven't caught it?

I guess the recent price drops on the 5D2; alluding the discontinuation... At least I had one before they discontinued it and sold it before they totally killed it.

Love the 5D2... I don't see the AF as a problem... I might upgrade one or two of mine to a newer body (leaning on a X and a III) but I will be keeping one until it dies...

Mine does everything I ask of it so I'm happy to continue with it until Canon deliver on their promise of an update in the 1Ds line.

Yeah, the AF is just fine for me...I'm only going to upgrade when Canon brings out something significantly better (the 5D3/6D just didn't tick that box for me) or mine dies (It has 7,500 clicks on it right now, so that may be a while yet...).

Taking it to Hong Kong, Macau and Canada in a few weeks...w00t! With the 16-35L II it's such an awesome travel setup!
