I guess I'll be the one to get this thread started.

Quick & dirty macro test with the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS on a 6D body. I also tried the same shot from the same spot with my 5DmkII and when I looked at the exif the focal length registers as 80mm. Weird huh?

Any more samples? I just ordered this lens today. Can't wait to see how it compares to the 2.8 mark I.

Subscribed. Keeping an eye on this lens, could be perfect for me!

How are the corners stopped down at 24mm? And the distortion (which I believe is minimal)?

The corners are pretty good from f/5.6 on (or so I've seen so far. I need to do more testing this week if I can.)

I think it's a GREAT size and weight for a zoom lens personally, that was one of the things (and driving factors behind selling my zooms) that I really hated about my L zooms. Big, fat, & heavy to carry all day. This is hardly larger than my primes and about the same weight, I definitely appreciated that.

I don't know that I'd buy it myself at the current asking price, but if I could get it in a bundle price with a camera (as I understand this may well become the kit lens for the 6D) then I think it would be a good value.

BTW - Here's my first impression writeup on it - http://www.thephoblographer.com ...-canon-ef-24-70mm-f4l-is/external link

Received mine yesterday but I have been really busy. Here are a few from last night in macro mode.

In macro mode, do you have much focal range to work with? Is it more like using a close-up filter, where your focal range is limited - or is it like a dedicated macro lens, where you can focus from MFD to infinity? Can't get my head around how it works on this lens. I tested it in-store, but didn't play around with the macro mode much.

It's interesting, there is a sort of range of macro usability. If you rack all the way out then you will get the highest magnification, and you do have the ability to focus, but you need to be rather close, otherwise if you adjust it a little bit you can be further from the subject and still focus close. It's a little tricky but not that hard to figure out.

It's almost like a built in extension tube, that's about the best way I can describe it.

I have one on order, i am still wondering if I should have gone for the 2.8 instead.

So owners are there any regrets with the F4 version or do you think it is totally worth it ??
