I just got a A610 about a month ago. It seems like the lens extension/retraction would be a fairly 'wear' heavy item, so I try to avoid turning the camera on for just one shot.
If I wanna take a shot of something, I try to plan it so I can take pictures of lots of things, in a brief time span. I'd feel a lot better if I knew what Canon specd the lens retract/extend life to, and how many times you guys have used yours. Zooming sorta falls into the same category, as that moves the lens about. Thanks. |

I think you're worrying unnecessarily - if it's gonna' go, it'll go.
And, you might take careful note of this particular feature, only to have something else break down - you know, Murphy's Law and all that. So just go out and shoot already! And pray that if something happens, it happens while the camera is still under warranty. Nancy |

The lens gearing is not as fragile as you might think, (or as it may sound
If you're not bumping the lens, it will work long. Last edited by adas : 16th of January 2006 (Mon) at 16:59. |

the a610 has a good lens motor. It seems better than the old powershot series. Not sure why, but it just seems like a better piece.

My lens is pretty loud... just got the camera today and when I zoom out it's loud. Another thing I noticed with the A610 is when I go from video mode and go around through the night, portrait shots way to get to auto, auto turns into video mode. But if I were to go the opposite way past custom, TV, AV etc., it goes to auto, anyone experience this problem and should I bring it back. Or is this correct? Thanks!
