Just installed Lightroom 4.4 to a new Windows 8 machine. All photos were copied to the same file structure. as were all catalogs, preferences and presets. It seemed to be OK at first, but now none of my edits are showing up even though I selected the correct catalog. I even copied in the catalog a second time and selected it as the active one, but many hundreds of Lightroom edits are just not showing up. Everything is still in tact on the source computer so I can always go through the process again. Its weird. I don't use a sidecar. Aren't the edits themselves in the catalogs or are they somewhere else. All files seem to be recognized as part of the catalog, There are just no edits. Did I screw up a preference setting?

Sounds like you did good; the edits should have come across within the catalog (*.lrcat). Did you simply copy/paste the .lrcat file from the old computer or did you export the catalog? If not the latter, you might try that. In the Catalog section of the left side panel select 'All' and then do Edit/Select All and File/Export as Catalog.

I think problem was actually that the catalog in the source copy of Lightroom may have been corrupted when I upgraded to Lightroom 4.4 recently. In any event, I used the most recent back and re synchronized everything, and the source at least seems to be OK again. I haven't really used Lightroom much since I upgraded to 4.4
