I see that Canon Rumours have a thread running on a 2014 announcement of a top-of-the-range camera, whatever that means.

Speculation is rife and let me make my own hopes clear. I need it to be a continuation of the IDs line, with award winning noise control, superb DR and firmly putting the Nikon D800/800E in their place.

There's two in the pipeline *apparently*... one is an update to the 1dX, and one is the high megapixel beast.

I hope the replacement for the 7d will be announced and that the noise will be much much better. I love the size of the camera and the 1.6 sensor, but they really need it to have top rate ISO performance. A new AF array would be nice also.

Canon 7D, Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 24-105L f/4, Canon 35L 1.4, Canon 200L f/2.8, Canon 70-200L II IS f/2.8, Canon 300L f/2.8IS, 580ex Flash, 430ex Flash, 1.4X Converter. Bunch of other crap! I want the new 500mmL and the 200L f/2.0

It would be nice to see but I'm sure that the folks at Nikon are not sitting still either. The D800 is already a year and a half old. Canon totally missed that boat and trying to play catchup is futile. They need to leapfrog to a totally new generation of cameras, not chase old technology.

Going on Canon's recent record, it will indeed be 36MP - on two separate sensors, side-by-side, with 18MP each, shooting through two lenses for 3D video. With all the characteristic banding...

Interesting that CR report Canon as saying they want this new flagship out before the replacement 1Dx. So its not going to be the follow up to that I'm pleased to hear.

But Canon are going to have to raise their game a lot. Canon sensors leave a lot to be desired these days.
