EOS 630 was one of my favorites. No built-in flash though. I'll bet they are cheap now.

I've been considering the EOS 3. They have decent prices for them on www.keh.com.

Sorry I wasn't paying more attention when making my first reply.
For the amount of money you want to spend you can probably get a decent EOS 3 or an EOS 1n. They are both excellent cameras.

Discovering digital has given me a big fire in my belly for photography in general - having been interested for years, and using a good Eos SLR for the last 11 years, it was not till I had a digital camera that i got real excited about photographing things.... when you have to keep an eye on film burn, financially at least, it slows you down a lot. even playing with lenses, checking sharpness and seeing what changing the aperture does - all this is easy on digital, and on my film camera I never did it at all.
the point of this is that now I am all enthusiastic about cameras in general, I too have started looking at some of the nice 35mm film cameras coming across ebay now, often at very nice prices as everyone dumps their film gear. I'd love an Eos 3 or a 1N. But I seriously doubt I would ever use it.... I decided to keep my money aside for things that really matter, like upgrading my lens collection, and going to nice places and shooting 2Gb of pictures in a couple of hours. and if I really need a film camera, I have my Eos 100.

The Canon A2 was a great camera and still is. They dont make them anymore but you can find them on ebay at decent prices.

Eos 1n or Eos 3 should be possible for that money. Maybe even an EOS 1v without booster.
*Don't* get an A2, if you like the camera get the non-US version (Eos5). There was a patent conflict IIRC, so the US version is somewhat crippled. (lightmeter in M ?) |

Save up and buy an EOS 1V..booster or not..the EOS 3 is great but the viewfinder only has 97% viewfinder coverage, fogs infared film, slower flash sync speed 1/200 versus 1/250 and some other minor details.

I don't know your timeframe, but just a thought - if you can wait for springtime, Canon usually starts a new round of rebates and they may be pumping up the rebates on the remaining film models or the ones they want to discontinue. The Elan 7N & 7NE are pretty good models, and if they put a good rebate on the EOS 3 that could be another great deal.
In the meantime, the prices on used film SLRs are going down, down, down - so waiting can pay off. Have Fun, |
