Default Trying a little hockey - UNC vs Duke Hockey (many images)

Trying to keep things fresh, I am always looking for way to keep things new and interesting. The bad news is I had already shot 2 basketball games Saturday - but this game had a start time of 10:30 pm - so I couldn't resist at least trying. It has been 20 years since I shot hockey in Montreal while living up there. I had forgotten how cold the camera gets after 2 hours - at 1 am. Anyway.... here is my first try back doing hockey after a very long break.... let me know what you all think. Cheers.

Good Shots Mark,

I Like shot number 4 the best. What Lens did you use a 70-200 f2.8?

OK so these are very nice as usuall from you. Did you shoot these through the glass or above the glass, or do they have a photographers area without glass, and you take your chances on getting hit by the puck?
I'm guessing that you shot these in RAW? Excellent color balance. Very good focus also. I know as much about hockey as I do soccer. Hockey is just colder .

WOW! These are better than good -- they're superb! Another sport mastered -- well done, Mark!

Nice, clean shots. You'd never know you hadn't shot this sport in a while. The color is just excellent.

These are over the glass. These guys play in a local public arena and the glass is in horrible shape...wasn't even going to go there. They have a viewing area on one side so I went about 4 rows up and found some unobstructed sightlines to shoot. Probably one of the best pieces of advice gave me was to not try to cover the entire game - consentrate only on what I can capture really well. It's better to have 10 really good shots then 50 so-so shots. I am learning to ignore stuff that is really cool but I am not in position to capture. Anyway... thanks for the comments.

Rick - these were shot with my new 3rd required appendage... my Sigma 120-300 f.28. I don't leave home without it. The more I shoot it... I wonder how I shot without it.

Jerry....mastered... I think not... but I got a start at least. I am really looking forward Baseball... that one I do want to master this year as I think I finally have the equipment I need to do that one.

BillShack, Liza, Allen, and Dan... thanks all for looking and commenting. I only wish these games were at more reasonable hours - I would like to shoot it more. Cheers.
