Hi, I am in a rut.....i know i need a fast lens and a good camera to take the pictures i want to take, Motosports and outdoor field sports....i have an opportunity to get a nice used canon 70-200 f/4 L for a great price but im stuck cause the camera i want i cant find at the price i need right now...the 20d. Does it make sence to drop down to the rebel? or does anyone know where i can get a 20d for under 1000.00? i have tried B&H and a couple other reputable places already and Ebay is no help either, the couple of places ive seen them in that price range everybody says not to buy from.....

Thank you for any suggestions, i am utterly frustrated. lol

I found this site on line. I don't know how good they are because I never used them, but the price isn't much more then you were looking.

www.beachcamera.com (external link) had some good reviews and they have it at a decent price as well.

Zoommania has only 9 reviews on resellerrating but their rating is 5. Probably should stay away from them

Keep an eye on the buy& sell forum here and perhaps go to FM and look at their buy and sell also. You might pick up a decent used one for under a $1000.

Why not keep an eye on the "Marketplace" forum here or check the "Buy and Sell" forum on www.fredmiranda.com (external link) (can I mention other sites? If not I apologize in advance.)

On the FM site there are several used 20D's for about $950 with extras. I have bought/sold several lenses there and each time everything worked out just fine. I would trust one of these photography sites before I would "fleabay".

It's going to be tough to get a new 20D under $1k. You will like the 20D, my Daughter lover hers.

Ya I'd say just as general rule, if you find a 20D new and its under $1,150-$1,250, then I'd be very leary of spending my money there. Check out KEH, they have a used one in Excellent condition for $919 [KEH.com] - wow, they launched their newly designed website today too. . . =)

I have the XT and if sports was my primary focus I'd trade up to the 20D. . . I would wait for the new camera annoucement coming at the end of the month at PMA. Most are positive the 20D's replacement will be announced. When it hits the market people will dump their 20Ds for it and some will have just purchased the 20D very recently. You're bound to get a good deal on a good used 20D if this happens.

However, there is the argument that the money you save on the XT could help you afford the lens(es) you need to shoot sports, as they aren't cheap. Bodies come and go, lenses, if you buy the right ones, will stay with you for a long time.

Good luck.

Switched to Nikon . . . Thanks to all of you that made my sale a success! Enjoy your new gear!
