Thumbs up Tour Britain and Ireland On Line (Video + Stills)

The film "My Pub Runneth Over” presents a comprehensive journey to Britain and Ireland, including England (London, Stonehenge, walled cities & a castle), Wales, Ireland (kiss the Blarney Stone, Dublin, Cliffs of Moher), and Scotland (Edinburgh, the highlands, bagpipes & Loch Ness), plus interviews, and, of course, pubs.

The video can be seen on the web, if you have a high speed internet connection.

This is a free, non-commercial, streaming video on the Windows Media Player. No ads and no strings attached. I sell absolutely nothing. My video site is:

http://intrepidberkeleyexplorer.com/Video.html

The still photo gallery from this trip can be viewed with any modem at:

http://intrepidberkeleyexplorer.com/Page4.html

There are over 30 of my other amateur travel videos on-line covering all seven continents. Visit Italy, England, Antarctica, Bali, China, Russia, Florida, Mayan Pyramids, Greece, American National Parks, or Turkey; see whales, penguins, or polar bears.

The planet is yours, including my Home Page giant galaxy of still pictures at:

Nothing would work for me. I tried left click and right click but not a thing it just brings me back to the same page.

Here's the page I was on:- http://www.adventurepics.com/IBE/vid...p?VF=MyPub.wmv

Look forward to viewing this... looks like you have seen the World.

CousinMadness,

Streaming video of the kind I do can be obstructed by a host of gremlins, starting with pop-up blockers. Here is a page that covers the usual suspects:

http://www.geocities.com/intrepidber...lemSolver.html

If nothing listed there helps, we can hunt for a different solution. There is usually a cure if we work together finding it.

Your accent makes this a little hard to follow since I don't speak any version of Scottish or Celtic. What I get is a continued failure of the video to stream and your belief that the problem is at my end. I also assume the page I sent you provided no solution. However, experience says we need to figure out a difficult gremlin hiding in your computer.

Can you watch streaming video that plays Windows Media files?

A good way to test this is by trying the short clips in different formats at Matrox Video:
http://www.matrox.tv/videos/mostrecent.asp

Whether they play or not helps with the diagnosis.

It would also be good to know how many different media players you have on your computer. Quicktime and Real Player can sometimes interfere with the Windows Media Player.

If you could provide answers in the English language, it would make things easier for me.

Your post ended with a question in green that I cannot understand. Please translate.

Joayne,

The streaming videos work unless something is blocking them or otherwise interfering. There are plenty of suspects, who usually can be identified and caught.

Have you first tried the site I posted above which starts with some easy solutions, such as turning off pop-up blockers? If not, here is that site again:

http://www.geocities.com/intrepidber...lemSolver.html

In case this site is not the answer, could you describe exactly what happens when you left click on a title from the AdventurePics page. Do you get any response or error message?

It would also help to know if you can stream other Windows Media Files on the Windows Media Player. The test site I suggested above is useful for learning this:

http://www.matrox.tv/videos/mostrecent.asp

We can go into more detail if that turns out to be needed.

Well bless you Berkeley for your polite patience.

So far your post has generated three (including mine) replies from folk who say it's not working. Cuzzin here knows every diagnostic trick in the book to make this glass fish bowl operate successfully for 10 to 14 hours a day.

I don't have any pop-up blockers on this machine, nor do I have multiple media programs open all at once. I have all the necessary up to date codecs and yes I can play every type of streaming video available. Which included the media link you sent me.

Let's look at the bigger picture here (no pun intended) and look at the possibility that your streaming software has a bug, and not we the eager to see public.

Since Cuzzin here has several computers running every day, I took the liberty of testing it with IE5 and Firefox browsers. Both failed to give me anything, clicking the links... any of your movies... takes me back to the originating page. I even waited a couple of minutes to see if the movie was loading in cache before it would pop up... nope nothing.

I am looking forward to seeing your travels, for you have indeed by the looks of it travelled far and wide.

I shall go and try again...

The phrase in green at the bottom is a slang term, basically translated means. "Going to give me some of your Scottish photos?" I have four UK/Ireland sites that I plan on making into the largest photo encyclopedia on the net. Perhaps down the road I would consider posting some of your movie links which are relevant to the UK.

Thank you for your polite and genuine responses.

Cuzzin.

Cuzzin,

I look at the larger picture and see that everything is working fine, with the videos streaming properly, marred by at least two exceptions on this forum.

Under no circumstances would I claim to be a technical person when it comes to computers. I'm better at video editing. However, I have over three years of experience now solving the kind of difficulty you are having, using a trial and error method. In all cases, it's been some kind of problem related to a person's computer, including such odd things as extremely low broadband speed and overly protective anti-virus programs.

If you wish to continue trying to solve this on your own, that's fine. I remain available to help, and you can e-mail me at davidmundstoc@msn.com .

Let me describe what is supposed to happen just so that is clear. On the AdventurePics page from which the videos are streamed, a normal left click on the title of a film opens up the Windows Media Player which immediately starts to buffer the stream and begin the video. There is no download, just a stream, (unless other media players are interfering or a person intends a download.)

If the Windows Media Player is yet to open on your computer, something is blocking it. You could have a pop-up blocker that came with other software, perhaps from your ISP. Windows Media Player versions earlier than #9 may not work either. And other media players can interfere, depending on the settings.

In your case it would be interesting to look for a site which streams video the same way mine does, opening up the Windows Media Player. My guess is that one will also fail to stream.

Good luck!

Thanks Dave,

Your page does not open up another window. I have no first second nor third party pop-up blockers. I know what they do and how to circumvent that if it does happen (Ctrl key).

I can open anything anywhere anytime, I have version 10 and Win XP. I have not visited a site that I could not open or the window would not pop up disallowing a video stream.

I am on 2.4 megabit DSL.

Your site is unique in that difficulty. Shame for I am looking forward to seeing your movies.

Thanks for trying.

Cousin,

I don't like giving up on these problems.

Here's a simple test on a site that opens the Windows Media Player for streaming video in the same way as my films. It's from NASA:

http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html

If you click on "Watch with Windows Media", let's see if this opens up for you or not.

I'm going to break with tradition and say that it worked absoultely fine on my computer (once I'd turned off the pop-up blockers).

Thanks for sharing Dave

Big B,

Thanks for that encouraging development.

I note that you mentioned "pop-up blockers" in the plural. There can always be more than one pop-up blocker on a computer, originating from different sources, and their signature is often complete failure of the Windows Media Player to open at all.

It's also important to mention that many thousands of people have watched my free travel videos without any problems.

Dave,

Your persistence is admirable, and just making me want to see your movies even MORE.

Yes the NASA window opened up, here's proof from a screen capture. The capture isn't showing the movie but it was playing the orbit of the Space Station with audio.

I am not even getting this window opening up from your site. I shall close everything down and try with only one window open. I am wondering if it has anything to do with linking from the forums... hmmm.

Thanks for caring enough not to give up....

Cousin.
