The Canon mount model will be released first in Japan on December 19, 2013 and subsequently elsewhere. The launch dates of the Nikon and Sony compatible mount models will be announced at a later date. The SP 150-600mm Di VC USD lens will be available in the USA on January 17, 2014.

Tamron 150-600mm VC Images

Played around with the lens a bit today. Will get some more shots.

Will be a great lens for my wife, I do not see it making the 100-400 obsolete.

Since you mentioned the 100-400L, why do you feel it isn't a replacement for that lens?

ANd as a point of comparison, can you check the max aperture at 400mm?

The exif for one of the shots is 400mm at f/5.6, so it matches the 100-400L. I am assuming it will not be any faster at that length, of course.

I just remembered it starts at f5, not f4, so that's actually pretty impressive to only drop 1/3 a stop at over half the zoom range. ALthough come to think of it, f6.3 is only 2/3 a stop from f5, so I guess it makes perfect sense. When I asked the question I was thinking it started at f4 and maybe it would be f4.8 or 5, etc, at 400mm
