I would like to buy UV and polarizing lens filters for the camera I got at Christmas but can't find any--only ones that I have to use an adapter to a larger lens size to use. Do they make these? Thanks!

Don't bother with a UV filter, your camera already has one built in. External UV filters were made for film cameras.

I believe the SX500 and SX510 don't have filter threads so you will need an adapter like so:

Then just buy a quality CPL filter in 52mm size.

There are threads. Are there no filters fit to this smaller lens size? Or do I have to use the larger filters with an adapter?

Doesn't it have like weird bayonet threads?

Unfortunately they don't really make many filters for small sizes, I use a 43mm-52mm adapter on my EOS M. Finding 43mm filters is really hard. They don't make anything worthwhile in that size, where as they make EVERYTHING for 52mm.

According to this the SX500 really doesn't have filter threads, they're just a place for the lens cap to grab onto.

Maybe your SX510 is the same?

No, there are threads because I have a 43mm-52mm adapter that screws in. But I would rather have a lens that fits directly.

They're not threads; the rings, however, are soft enough that you're cutting threads into the front of the lens when you screw the filter in. There's a limit to how long you'll be able to keep doing that before the lens front gets too chewed up to continue to hold things.

B&H list 445 items in the 43mm size including some
reasonably priced kits including a CPL and variable ND.

Also looks like the 510 is without the external bayonet
feature supplied on the SX1 thru 50 line so LensMate
is not an option for an adapter. (Love mine)

No reason for me to do 43mm when I already have a full set in 52mm, including a Coker P system..

How many item for 52mm would pop up? I'm sure 10 times as much.

I just got these in the mail.
Vivitar Filter Kit for sx510external link

I keep the uv filter on most all the time and I like the hood for bright sunny days
The 510 does have threads and not the bayonette type but screw threads.

Just my 2cents!

Are we sure it's 43mm? I just tried a 43mm to 52mm ring and it was too big.

Thanks very much.
