Default Aussie POTN Chinese New Year Parade

just a placeholder for now

3 of us turned up - 300D, 350D, 20D

I took around 300 shots - the other 2 probably did about the same.

We will try to not post the same views of the same people.

Catch ya soon!

I went down to George St. today to meet up with John (aka "kiwibloke") and Paul. A good morning+ was had by all. Aside from the meeting (and checking John's 85/f1.8 ) I wanted to try (the operative word here) to take some shots of the parade for Chinese New Year (Paul's well-spotted suggestion).

I learned a lot. Unfortunately, I mostly learned that I don't know what I'm doing. The shutter clicked many times, but few enough photographs emerged.

I realised (but only after the parade had passed) that I'd taken the completely wrong approach, was looking at the wrong things, was using the wrong lens(es) from my own equipment bag etc. I had no clue how to photograph a parade. I still don't know how but (to put on some positive spin) I have 1 (and only 1) clue. Photographically, parades are dull. I have many photos to prove it. But isolated individuals and elements might work.

Too many shots, I know, but I hope some of these work:

Yep. I missed out.

Some nice pics there. Looks like you were lucky with at least some sun.

Nice series! Looks warm and comfy down there, here in New York it was a bit chilly, but just right. Not bad considering that it was snow was predicted several days before. Where in Oz was this?

That's in Sydney's CBD - George street.

Yeah - the parade was fun - shooting with 2 others was great - the beers afterwards were a bonus, as discussed.

The only reason I posted again on it after so long is that, for some reason, I noticed that we had been asked a question by thesuntan that hadn't had a reply.

Thanks for your comments - always appreciated.
