I would like to start a thread for the kayakers and canoers out there that take landscape photos on their journeys. Thanks to forum member KayakPhotos there is a kayak wildlife thread. But sometimes there isn't any wildlife or there is a great landscape. So post them here.

A friend and I shoot landscapes from a little flat bottom boat from time to time so let's include small boats.

I hope every kayaker has enjoyed many mornings like this.

That's a really good idea Charles, I'm surprised that there hasn't been a thread already.

That's a NICE shot too, I really do like that, a really good way to start off a thread like this too! :)
Is this the smaller lake you go to, or is this actually Caddo Lake?

I personally don't have a shot to add, but I wish I did... :)

Thank you Randy. Hopefully others will join in soon.

That shot was at Caddo Lake near Potter's Point near the Texas/Louisiana border. The Giant Salvinia was thick in the main lake on the Texas side which really affected the businesses on that side the lake. Louisiana sprays so that side of the lake was much better. The ice we had this winter killed most, if not all, of the Salvinia so it is accessible again.

The Giant Salvinia was so bad last year at Carters Lake, the smaller lake, it was impossible to paddle. It sure is nice to have the lake back.

2012 Carters Lake (yes there is water under there)

I was showing my wife your pictures of Carter Lake and Caddo on your website, we've both been to Caddo a few times, but we both liked your Carter shots too. For me, now that I have looked at Carter on the map, I will probably go there, hopefully before the Salvinia comes back, if it does. I knew about the Texas side being so much worse, they couldn't keep up with it, or, just didn't.

When I do get there, I plan on camping at Carter's campground, even with its 'no amenities'... Really, I want to get some shots similar to what you do there, I always liked what you shot in those places, but it's a 3 hour drive for me... :)
I have one question, do you launch at FR Camp Road when you go to Carter?

Hopefully the Giant Salvinia didn't run off the wildlife, you know how that 'trickle' goes.

The only bad thing about those lakes is the mosquitoes and the humidity, and they both affect me pretty bad when I go to that area. heheh

Thanks Charles!

Randy, let me know when you plan to go out there and maybe I can paddle with you, take you to lunch, or something. That is if you want to.

The FR Camp Road ramp is the ramp I use. They recently put a chain across the ramp to prevent people from launching motor boats. So you will have to carry the kayak a little farther than before but it wasn't that bad.

Some hunters have camped there during hunting season. There was a scouting troop there last June. Otherwise it has been empty.

The 2012 shot is just to the left of the ramp, just follow the license plates out to the lake. Once you get to the lake itself going left is where most of the bird shots were taken. To the right takes you to Big Cypress Bayou. The state park and some of the local stores sell a waterproof map of Caddo Lake and the surrounding waters that has the boat trail markings.

The 2014 shot is to the right of the ramp.

The mosquitoes weren't too bad but bring some bug spray. In warmer weather I usually go out early so I'm done before it gets in the 80s. Kayaking in July or August is not for me.

Another good area to kayak and see wildlife in calm waters to put in at Shady Glade in Uncertain Texas. The map calls the places Mossy Brake and Turtle Shell.

Thanks Charles, I PM'd you... :)

Even if the mosquitoes aren't bad for most, they will zero in on me, my blood's a sweet exquisite elixir to them, well, that's what I like to think since they take it anyway... heh

I'll check out Shady Glade too, that sounds very kayaky... :)

Thanks Charles, I really appreciate the knowledge and help.

Here is a shot from last November on the Louisiana side of Caddo Lake.

Ray, that looks like a great place to kayak with the mountains off in the distance. Thanks for posting.

Here is one from 2012. This location was only accessible by kayak. We had to duck under limbs and clip some branches to get there.

I agree, that is one heck of a place to shoot and kayak, or, just being there one ought to feel privileged. Nice stuff you have there Ray.

Also, you have some REALLY nice shots on your web site too, I love your owl shots. Did they have a nest in your barn or something?
You must really have the wildlife up in B.C., I always wanted to go up North to that area, hopefully I'll get there someday. :)

I've seen this shot on your site, but I have not said how cool that looks. I really should've tried to go to the actual Caddo Lake itself (instead of the bayou area alone) while I was down there, but I got lazy, I guess. :)

That shot has a real calming effect though, I like it.
