So more and more people are starting to take pictures of paintball so I figured I could start a thread for posting. We can also share techniques and tips for people wanting to start shooting this awesome sport.

Ill start it off.. here is 2 shots from this last weekend at PSP Chicago

EDIT!:
Here are some tips from some well-known paintball photographers for those of you who are just starting!

you need to bump your shutter speed up even if it means having to bump your ISO up... I prefer to stay at 1/800th or faster. shoot in Aperture Priority and set your ISO to like 250 and f stop as wide open as your lens can and you'll get some amazing results, bump up the ISO if it starts getting a slower shutter speed...

Don't be afraid to get hit.
Protect your gear, but come to the realization that your camera or lens might take a hit. Best you can do is get multiple UV filters for your lenses, this way those get broken instead of your lens.
What I liked to do was watch 1 or 2 points of Xball before taking some serious pictures of teams so you can see who goes where etc...
Once you get get the feel for what works keep shooting!

I've wanted to try this. Do they make you wear the protective head gear? And have you even been shot or have your gear hit by a ball?

anyone who is in side the course/netting HAS to wear a mask. thats the #1 rule of the game for everyone involved.

and as for getting hit by paint, the best advice I can give you is to watch how the game works. from the sideline you aren't going to be getting in the line of fire that much but tournament style paintball (shown in the pictures above, with inflatable bunkers on closed/netted fields) is a very fast game involving many angles. as long as you learn to avoid certain angles which will always have paint flying that way, you can easily avoid getting hit. BUT these are inflatable bunkers which means paint easily bounces off in many directions.

as for protecting your gear, theres many ways to avoid getting dirty. its almost unavoidable to get away with out getting some spray on yourself and gear but towels wrapped around your lens and body are probably the best and easiest way to move around and still use your gear. lens protectors are a must, along with a simple protective lens for safe measures. ive seen some direct lens hits before but they always had a protective lens which was definitely broken but usually helped save the front element.

.......

I agree with 100% of what he said! except.. about having a filter on the front. The 1 and only time I used a filter on field it got shot, broke and scratched my front element. Ever since then I just leave it off and make sure I'm heads up. rarely do I get shot straight on, but when it does I just wipe it off.

Another thing.. another good way to protect your lens is sweat bands. they fit well around focus and zoom rings so you can still use them. and they have neoprene covers for camera.. you can just cut a hole in the front so you can mount your lens, plus a hole for shutter release.

quit photography / paintball for awhile came back after life was in order bought a T3i to see if I was serious or not about it. and took these @ Royal Ridges of Seattle Thunder, Portalnd Uprising, and a few local teams. these were edited with a free progam called fotor, not the best, mainly filters but it's what I had at the time:
