Default First Motorsport of 2006!

A quiet afternoon today made me fancy a visit to Donington Park race track, get back into practice after not shooting motorsport for so long. Was just a test day, so a mixture of cars on track, was weird watching a Seat touring car being overtaken by a Formula Renault!

All shot with a 300mm f2.8 with the 1.4xTC and 2xTC at times.

So yea, as always, all comments welcome!

If you look closely, he appears to be asleep at 70mph!

Where did you shoot from Pete?

Was up there 2 weeks ago and normally do Redgate, but infield tunnel was shut

I'm up there this sunday for track day...

I shot from the exit of Goddards, the infield looking onto the straight in between McLeans and Coppice and from the outside of Coppice.

I'll probably pop back again next week, am out of practice really, will stick with the test days, nice variety of very fast cars!

Do they use the full circuit or chopped down one for testing?

My track days in the national circuit, which cuts across after the tyre into the pit lane corner, and misses out the big loop...I'm terrible with the names

Thanks for the info, will look at some better locations next time, I got lumbered with the grandstand and pit entrance, which sucked becasue the pit was shut

Pete, those are nice shots. Can you tell me which were taken with the 1.4 and 2x?

Also, as an aside, I have to laugh at your name: incomplete pete. When I was in grammar school, more years ago than I care to state, I starred in a play. My character's name was: Dirty Pete, and I was in a quandry because I hated water and soap. When I come out to play my friends run away because I hate water and soap. Those were my lines. I'll never forget. I was dressed in torn, dirty clothes.

MDJAK, #5 and #8 were taken with the 2xTC, I'm pretty sure the rest are taken with the 1.4, but can't remember off the top of my head. Certainly can't complain about sharpness though, although AF was a bit sketchy with the 2xTC at times.

You can just turn up and shoot from the public areas, but I've gathered that the views aren't great from those areas. Fortunately I was shooting as press, so had free access to the circuit, something the public won't be allowed to do I'm afraid.

That's where I struggle, I'm there tomorrow but can only shoot from the grandstand, lower pit entrance where you can see a section of the track, or infield at redgate which is realy good, but is currently shut for the pit revamp, or at least it was couple wks back...

Thanks for that, Taylor!

Danja, I've never ventured over to Redgate, tended to stay around the other side of the circuit for some reason. I can imagine to shoot from the outside of Redgate you'd need a beast of a lens anyway! At least at the test days I can ride my motorbike about the infield etc. and explore the circuit fully without loads of spectators to contend with! lol
