I know shooting small birds in flight is more difficult because most of them are so much faster than large birds.........but this is ridiculous.

Bob, you do know that you can't shoot birds in flight with a 6D.

There's a lot of conflicting info out there with regards to the 100-400mkll and teleconvertors on the 6D so I thought I'd post this here and on the lens thread. The Kenko 2x pro300DGX does work with this combo.......or at least it does with mine, despite Kenko saying it doesn't. It hunts like buggery in poor light but is fine in good light. It's howling a gale out there atm so at f11 and slow shutter speed, no use testing quality yet but I will post some asap

Never used a 2x before but love the extra reach over my canon 1.4

Still waiting for a bright enough day without wind to give this a proper test but I can cofirm that in full (bright) sunlight it will autofocus with centre spot. With manual selection autofocus (all spots selected) it focuses fairly fast in dimmer light and at full stretch and with a minimum of f11 I guess it is up to the user as to whether allowing the camera to pick auto spot is OK. For me, shooting birds and filling the frame with them, it may be useful.

I was out in the garden testing it's focusing speed when this feller came into the viewfinder. Not up to 7Dmkll and canon extender standard but I had all focusing spots enabled and it was pretty dull so it looks promising, but more to follow under better conditions hopefully

Yes, it will occasionally focus centre spot in strong light but can hunt like buggery and not really worth the bother if you're going to miss shots. Using all spots engaged, it is fairly fast at focus for f11 but strangely, always seems to pick an outer spot although I would have thought that the centre spot, claiming to be more sensitive, would be picked every time? Not once did it pick centre? Any ideas why? At first I thought perhaps it's opting for the nearest focus point but in the first pic, it's clearly picked the furthest? Can't fault the quality unless after huge prints for < A$200 as I could never stretch to the canon.

Last two are 100% crops. I was about 15 yds away for the pink flower and didn't even see the bee with the naked eye!

Will try taping the pins tomorrow to see if centre spot works.

All at full stretch 800mm. No exif, I'm guessing because I've not got 'em public on flickr?
