Default Norfolk Southern and Amtrak

Went to Charlottesville, VA on Friday. The Amtrak station there is really neat; there is a track diamond near the station where CSX tracks cross Norfolk Southern tracks.

-NS 11R led by a BNSF locomotive passes by the station platform.

-NS 227 led by a Operation Lifesaver locomotive with a SD70M-2 trailing.

-Amtrak Crescent #20 slows as it prepares to pick up riders.

-Buckingham Branch (a local shortline) prepares to switch cars on an NS siding.

-I met a young railfan, Gabriel, who was very excited about the passing of a NS intermodal train. Shown here with scanners in hand.

As always, comments and critique are appreciated.

Nice shots.
Dents on the front of Amtrak isn't too comforting.

The Buckingham Branch is Virginia's largest shortline railroad, operating over 200 miles of trackage in central Virginia. The railroad expanded from the original 17 miles from Dillwyn to Bremo Bluff, VA to over 200 miles with the lease of CSX Transportation's ex C&O North Mountain Subdivision on Decemeber 20, 2004.

Great shots. I like them all. The first shot could use a little lightening though.

Jon.

I like the NS227 shot, it is allways nice to see "OLS" paint schems. The shotline action is a plus as well. That dip under the bridge is seems big, did you use a telphoto on those shots?

I used the 70-200mm f4 L for all the shots. The lens hardly ever comes off my camera when I'm out railfanning.

The Amtrak was about 4 hours late coming through. I also caught two more Amtraks at Charlottesville (50 & 51)...both of which were running late; 45 mins and 90 mins.
