Just something to set you thinking before the new motorsport season starts in earnest.

Try something different every meeting you go to. You know rear shots are not always interesting, how about one in the wet?

Why not an unusual angle for a shot of marshals in action?

Or, get the flag in shot as the winner crosses the line.

My paddock, pit lane and grid post should be on line this coming week.

I reckon that the flag shot would work much better if you were alongside the chap with the flag and got the flag in the foreground with the winner screaming past in the background, would require impecible timing though!

Nice proposal, Ken.

As an amateur it would indeed be nice to see life behind the scenes, crew life, dining, meetings, drivers' steaming faces after 2 hours on the track, coaches shouting on despair, technical gadgets on pit stop...

I was shooting from Old Hall corner and took the shot at 600mm. I needed race shots from that corner and threw the 2x on to get the winner and flag. It wouldn't have been worth working the pit lane for just that shot as the rest would not have been what I was after. You have to compromise, but it is still worth having a go at something out of the ordinary. Anyway, it was published.

Ah, not exactly a quick hop, skip and jump to get the shot at the last minute then! Guess it depends on the circuit and ease of access really. Besides, if it was published, that's all that matters! lol

Hi Pekka,

I have a post coming up that show some behind the scenes stuff. In a few months I am out of a publishing ban on some work I did at the 2001 Grand Prix and these are all behind the scenes, including inside an F1 garage. I signed a contract not to use them for 5 years and it expires this year.

Here is an unusual shot. For UK members, this is Max Chilton, young brother of Tom of BTCC fame. I was taken with Tom's permission as Max is only 15.

I was a lot, lot older than that when I has my first race.

something to think about for the upcoming season...I usually try to get some different stuff when I shoot though.

Max did very well - 3rd in the autumn T-cars series and I think somewhere in the top 10 for the 2005 championship? I saw some of the autumn series on Motors TV but can't remember where he finished in the "season proper" so to speak.

Hi Ken thanks for the 'food for thought'. The new season can't come quick enough. Looking forward to meeting you at Oulton again. Can't believe how much our brief chats have improved my shots and the number of keepers.

I really like #1 Ken. Gorgeous low angle on that one.
