Unhappy I need some tips for upcoming wedding

Can someone please give me tips on poses and camera set ups for weddings? A relative of mine asked me to be her daughter's back-up photographer because the photographer they have booked may be moving to another state for a better job. I have shot a wedding before but that was for a very low budget couple and I did it for free. I think my work was cruddy, so I need tips. Please help! I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT with built in flash, one atatchable flash, an 18-55mm lense and a 70-300mm lense. Of course a tripod. I have no aditional equipment as far as flash units and lenses go. Can I hack it like this? I won't be charging and it's all digital so it's no skin off my nose. Thanks much!

the first wedding i shot was with the 70-300... it sucked... but it didn't turn out all bad. Definatly get to know your flash really well before the wedding, it can make or break the shots. If possible shoot more with the 18-55, just watch out for barrel distortion at the 18mm end, unless you are trying to make an effect. as for poses with the B & G make sure she is in focus and looking good if not there will be hell to pay. I try to get my B & G's to have fun, smiles and laughs, if they have fun while taking the pictures, it definatly shows through in the final product. The bride snugglen' up the groom always makes for good shots too.

Good luck most of all =) make sure to get the shots framed and in focus, and have FUN!

I think Tim had a bunch of links to books he recommend for poses and lighting... it could be worth looking into them. Plus of course "practice, practice and more practice". Know your equipment and maybe see if you can find a fast lens, in case you can't use a flash in a dimly lit room.

There is a whole section on weddings. You should look at it. Your questions may be answered already.

I'm Tim, and this is a forum not a blog

You might try reading this thread, I recommend a bunch of books somewhere on the thread I think. At some point i'll bring it up to date and post a link to other useful resources.

I'll start a new thread about it some time, i'll post the tips on my website instead of on the forum because it gives me more flexability to maintain the page. You can only edit your posts for two weeks or so, otherwise i'd have updated my first "lessons learned" post with my latest lessons. I'll probably do that next month.

Thanks, Tim. I knew you'd come around to help. We could have gone on forever, but questions were already dealt with. Love those old threads.
