From version 1.33 (installed today), you can upload gear images directly on each gear page, like http://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=520, the link to upload is under the images (or image placeholder). Thank you all!

Closing this thread now.

------------

As you can see the gear database is missing almost all images. I was hoping to "crouwdsource" the images, you all have all the gear and if you are willing to make and donate some images to the forums then great! I would rather use gear photos taken by members than commercial ones, but if you are a dealer or manufacturer your pr photos are welcome, too.

All gear images will be attributed to the member(s) who gave them to the forums.

Examples of what would be great:

multiple angles: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=90

back and front (click it): http://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=113

Single photo: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=242

----------

If you have a gear photo to give:

post to this thread, paste the URL to the gear (in gear browser, as above) and upload the image(s) to the post. This way all can see what has been given, to avoid duplicates and overlap.

Thanks!

Hopefully this is what you have in mind and that this image will be helpful. This is a shot I took of my Canon 1Ds Mk II when I owned it. Here's the link to it in the gear list: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/gearindex.php?id=109

And here is my image.

A few questions on this.

1. Do we need to host the images ourself, or can we use the 'upload images' to the forum? (since some of us will be doing this just for the forum)

2. You want them with the background cut out? So it's just the lens/camera 'floating'?

3. Size?

I made a few of some of the Canon telephotos last night and I'll be editing them throughout the day.

For example (I realize the 400 f/5.6 already has images, after the fact :p)

But is this along the lines of what you're looking for? I didn't resize at all so it's quite large. (also it's a really quick rough cut, I will spend more time on the rest)

Upload them to post, I'll put them on this server in another folder for gear list use.

2. You want them with the background cut out? So it's just the lens/camera 'floating'?

Now that it is apparent that there will be some different color schemes, the background can be about anything. If you have time, mask it to white and I'll make it transparent and save as png.

3. Size?

They are rendered as 300x300 or smaller, but they can be even 4x that (for retina screens).

I made a few of some of the Canon telephotos last night and I'll be editing them throughout the day.

Great! I really appreciate all help I can have with gear database.

You can crop it quite tight. 20-50 pixels of edge space is enough.

One aspect we talked in beta: it would be good to have a lens cap or something with at least one image, so that scale of the gear can be seen.

I haven't really took any studio shots of my gear other than for when I had to get a new Nifty for Where's Nifty. I do have a bunch gear I should sell so I'll get some nice studio shots of them and post them up if still needed.

I think the transparent background would be a good idea with themes but it's not like have a color background that's different from the page is a bad thing either.

Here's a low key shot I took of the 1DIV with the new Nifty on it, you can use it for now if you want or just wait for something better suited(high key).
