Shaggy and her mistress have been together for close to twelve years...it can be hard sitting up with a old dear friend that is dieing. With a human you can talk with them, with a dog you can only wonder what they're thinking and how they're feeling. I know Shaggy and her mistress very well...they are very loyal to one another. The image is simply a sad moment in time, frozen. The world will keep spinning, the sun will rise and set again, the stars will traverse the heavens, ...but to that little white dog her world is lying in that bed... Maybe a person would have had to be there to feel the depth of the situation....maybe I failed in getting the image.

You didn't fail - You nailed it the expression the dog has says it all.
Pet owners will see this right away :-)

You did well to capture the moment and to remind me of the realities of being a pet owner.

I got it immediately. Good job capturing a sad situation.

Edit: You nailed the title as well

The sadness is palpable in that image! It is a wonderful tribute to the human animals bonds!

The picture is self-explanatory. Your explanation with the second picture makes it all the more poignant.

I understood it immediately too. Very evocative. Excellent work, and I'm sorry for your impending loss.

Thanks, everybody. Mimi died Friday, December 12, 2014. She is at rest now. Shaggy is mourning. She's like a human...she's not sure what to do now. We're trying to get her to stay at our house (our house is a couple of hundred feet away) but Shaggy always goes back "home", so we put her in at night and let her out in the morning. Ed
