Thanks.. loving the AF.. feels quick and solid.. Only used it a handful of times so my keeper rate at this stage is pretty low, and i'm pretty fussy when it comes to soft shots.. The zoom ring is reversed so that's going to take a bit to get used to.. and the zoom lock doesn't lock permanently into place at 600mm.. more that if you're at 600mm and lock it, and you use the zoom ring it unlocks pretty easily.. Using it with a 5d mk3..

Here's a few more samples..

100% crops. Note that these have been adjusted in lightroom.

No idea about the contemporary version, but for me, I'm not too concerned about price. Having owned the 120-300 sports, I love the build quality, weather sealing and USB dock functionality. I also own the Tamron 150-600 and don't feel it's nearly as good as the Sigma (on a 5d mk3)..

Probably because the Tamron 150-600 is a lot less expensive (half the price), has the same focal lengths, and is hard for many people to justify the extra $ for the small differences.

My guess is that it has nothing to do with the price of either lens and that it has more to do with the Sigma lens/lenses not being readily available.

as can be seen even in dull conditions ,down a poorly lit back street the lens locked on to birds in flight, the shot with the keys and c/f card you can even read the made in china lettering on the edge ,extremely impressed the more i look at the pics from the day ,any mistakes made were down to weather conditions and myself not being fully conversant with the 70d yet ,(i should have used my 1Dmkiii ) in reality .but never the less impressed with the lens

canon 1dmkIV, sigma150-600mm.os.sports ,sigma 70-200mm f2.8os, ,lots of other gear to
tried the rest got the best

since u own both the tammy and the siggy, can u post a few side by side comparisons,i love this focal length and i am on the fence for the tammy as a xmas gift to myself on a boxing day special but if the siggy is on sale it will be a contender.prob the contemporary version though.cant justify double the price at this time.

Went to the zoo yesterday.. Just keep in mind that most of these are either through glass windows or fence grids.. Just can't believe how sharp this thing is at 600mm.. I haven't even micro adjusted it but yeah.. love it..
