Default Rebel Question

Since I bought my 400 5.6 it seems my mount has become loose.... Not loose I guess but it seems to flex so to speak... Ok I know this is not clear... What do you all think. (I have tightened all the screws, none were loose)

I look forward to an upgrade to possible the 30D or the MkII... we will see what the Easter bunny, my Birthday, Fathers day, Christmas, and whatever other day I can think of will bring me...

I sill love what the rebel does for me so this may be a non issue.

Well with a lens like that make sure that you are supporting the wait of the lens, and not just let it hang off the end of the camera.

Well I haven't experienced that issue at all with mine, and I have had it for two years. But then I just got my 100-400 and it is my first heavy lens.

Well with nothing to campare it too it is hard to say... I can hear it move it that indicates anything.. I can probably see a mm of space if I put a little pressure on it??

At what weight are lenses considered heavy enough to require support?

Ok, I may be wrong in this assumption, but if the lens weighs more then the camera, then support the lens.

Quite honestly, I never gave it much thought, but that makes perfect sense...

Perhaps a good rule of thumb is, if the lens has a tripod ring, it's meant to be supported. I don't think a normal person is strong enough to cause damage by trying to hold it up with the camera, though.

To the OP: I would have the camera/lens checked by someone knowledgeable. The flexing you describe doesn't sound right, and it could cause focusing problems if the amount of flex changes between the moment of focus and the moment you take the shot.

I feel a bit presumptious adding to this as a fairly new user of an XT Rebel, but I have seen several magazines comment on NOT supporting a heavy or long lens with the body.

They all say hang the camera off the lens, as the lens can support the weight of the body, but the camera body WILL flex if you try to hold the lens up with it.

Hope you haven't already strained it....

Well, the camera has no problems and I always hold the lens not the camera no matter what lens I use... Ok the 50 and , kit, and 28-105 I do not but the rest I do... The bad part is I cannot just hang it over my sholder.
