Thanks! One of my favorites from my daughter's dance school to photograph, she has been out for two years from an injury and is now modeling for Kohl's as a fall back. Might return this year to dance again.

The resolution of the Canon T4i was not the greatest, at the time it was my quietest camera. The studio had a commercial photographer who usually shot these things, and the studio head was protecting his interests, which I understand. But he also was not likely to concentrate on my grandgirls. So I sneaked the camera in to shoot a performance. Turned out the Pro had a scheduling conflict and my shots were all there was except phone images. Despite the fact that I always have my GKs in frame if they were onstage, I shot every dance, at least a few frames. And the studio head was happy I had been there. Come Nutcracker, and she was trying to ban me again.
Anyhow these two images are the color and the monochrome versions of the same shot. Noise is awful at 6400 in the T4i, so the color image is edited fairly heavily but much of the noise is still there or too much detail would be gone.
Which is why I like converting them to black and white.

I don't want to exceed my welcome. These two will be it for today. From the same set as above. Awful light, lots of noise, but one is graceful and the other evocative.

Cool shots David!

I think I will try to persuade some of my daughters friends for some outdoor shoots. In the theatre is so dang hard for action shots with that crazy stage lighting. Taking 300 shots and get 5 keepers...

Balet shooting is one of my specialties... it takes times to build that trust with the dancers. But go, do it, the arts is absolutely beautiful to photograph!
