Okay Jeff - I know how this should work... You can choose your avatar per quote or post. Use the one that most represents your feeling at the time. Just imagine - the first one for when that annoying photog steps in front of you right at the moment you wanted to take a pic... and the last one for when that photog steps in front of you at the exact moment you were going to take a pic of an angry moose - who then stepped on that annoying photog!

Heh, heh, heh.... I don't suppose the circles this guy runs in has many other togs around to get in the way ! ;-)a

True Ned... sometimes !! Its true in wildlife photography being alone is the best way to get the animal looking directly at you, which is my preference, But I do shoot with a friend from time to time and we have worked out that kink for the most part. Mutual respect is key. He does take the eyes off me for 50% of my shots which is a far trade for the time spent.

Sometimes ya just get closer lol

Nice! Where is this from, Mark? Looks pretty far out into the western 'burbs...

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Recently, I've been seeing some complaints here on POTN about the bokeh produced by the 100-400 v2. There is no problem with this lens whatsoever. Same as with any lens, if you want nice bokeh you need to choose your backgrounds carefully and make sure that you shoot in light that is conducive to pleasing bokeh.

If we do our part, the 100-400 v2 most certainly does it's part, and process very nice background blur. If we think that we should be able to have anything at all in the background, and it's the lenses job to blur it out nicely, then we need to re-think our approach to image-making.

While that's a nice example of 100-400 II bokeh, it's much harder to get pleasing bokeh with this lens than a 24-70 or 70-200. Like its predecedor, the bokeh just feels less smooth and more nervous. Not that I'm going to ditch mine, because it's still a great lens, but it's not the one I reach for when I want BOKEH (channeling Kai Wong).

I don't see how the comparison to the 24-70 is valid, because you cannot compare images of the same scene, shot from the same position and shot at the same focal length and the same aperture, due to the fact that these lenses' focal lengths do not overlap at all.

Your comparison to the 70-200 is, of course, only valid when shooting the same subject with the same background from the same position at the same focal length and the same aperture. . It would be preposterous to compare an f5.6 lens to an f4 lens or an f2.8 lens unless you are stopping down the faster lenses.

My 100-400 v2, when used at 400mm, gives me very similar bokeh to that which I get from my 400mm f2.8, when I stop the 400 f2.8 down to f5.6.
