Here is the link to the post I started for the 28 - 300 lens
http://photography-on-the.net ...php?p=2372174#post2372174

dataxy.com
I never liked lenses with wide ranges. I would advice the 24-70f2.8 for $1100 and get something else with the rest... like a 70-200 f4.

Well I thought about the 28 - 300 because I want that wide range and also reduce the amount of lens changes I have to do, which results in Dust etc getting into the mirror chamber and eventually on to my Sensor.
I already clean my own sensor, just trying to reduce the number of times I have to clean it.

I do also plan on definitely getting the 100 - 400 IS L lens. This according to the reviews is the best bang for buck, as far as range, although the IS system, is in need of an upgrade to the latest generation

But the 28 - 300 also has the dust seals and I can have one lens instead of 2 to carry around, it would probably be lighter using the 2 that I have now, but I don't have any L lenses or any with IS,
These are a few reasons why I have been looking at the 28 - 300.

Plus I don't have copius amounts of cash to go dropping on prime lenses.

How about adding the Best Bokeh Thread to the list? Seems like it belongs in a Lens Comparison thread...

FYI, these aren't on your list:
Sigma 12~24mm EX DG
Canon 90mm TS-E

I have both and have galleries on my Pbase account dedicated to them. You can link to those if you like, or I can make a specific thread for each and you can add those to the master list if you like.

Ben

just made a sigma 12~24mm thread here:

and a 90mm TS-E thread here:

I wonder if it would be possible to clean up the archive a bit. Many of the archived threads have Off Topic discussions and un hosted pictures. Would it be possible to maybe delete the posts after a month of the OFF TOPIC discussions post date or something.

What comes to mind right away is a Polerizer discussion in the 17-55 IS thread, has nothing really to do with the topic or any certain pictures.

I mean its one thing to complment a photo, thats good. But to use it as a chat room is no use to anyone.

Just a thought...

That is something that a mod would have to do. There are a lot of threads and I don't know that they would have the time for it. Hopefully CDS or another mod can chime in and tell you for certain.

Hmm so you want moderators to once a month go through all those threads and clean them up ?

I don't know how involved the actual deletion process is, but would it help if you had a few people go through and provide you a list of the links to posts that could be removed from a given thread?

I'm sure you'd find a few of us willing to volunteer, if of course it would actually save you any time.

That would definately help. Deleting the post is pretty quick it is locating them that is the time consuming part.
