I'm adding this image here since the corned beef hasn't been cooked yet and the pickling spices are more center stage...

It's a gloomy day today with rain forecast for this afternoon. So, I decided to make some corned beef.

This is in a slow cooker with potatoes and carrots on the bottom. Now I'll just add water to cover, turn the cooker on low and let it go for about 8 hours. This is when I would add a head of cabbage that's been quartered and then cook for another 45 minutes or so but I've decided not to make cabbage today.
