Thanks! Shot this one manually, but thinking about getting a mount setup and trying some remote triggering in the future.

Go for it. Did you shoot this with the Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM? For you to be on the catwalk, at some point in time, did you need to get approval by; (1) the police and/or fire departments, and/or (2) the IceHogs organization? Do you have to have, or use any security lines for you and/or your gear? Just curious.

This was with the 70-200 2.8 mk2. Since I'm the house photographer, they pretty much let me do as I please, but typically they just make people sign a waiver if they are going up there. They do provide a harness if requested. Since there are railings throughout the entire area, it's really safe. The people up there that operate the spotlights do wear harnesses because there are no railings in front of them, but those are the only locations without.

Got a chance to head back to the rink last night finally. Dropped to 1/500 and stayed at ISO 3200 this time. Also had my new 5D4 and 24-70/2.8II with me. The 70-200/2.8 was on the 7D2 as well and I stayed in the same settings. I think it got better but still cant seem to get them as sharp as some of your guys. Not sure what else i can do but ill keep working at it.

they look a little dark but i dont see any sharpness issues...

granted i on old gear and wear glasses but im not seeing anything...

youre shooting THROUGH the glass though so that probably accounts for a) the dim look and b) any sharpness problems youre suffering...

yeah the glass is giving me troubles for sure. I just dont seem to get the in mask detail that I want. I probably should trust the histo a bit less and bring up the exposure a bit to compensate. Calibrated monitor has helped too. Might be time to run another calibration.
