Took a walk around my usual spot for a couple of railroad shots today. Things were pretty busy, and I managed to get off a few shots.
First, Norfolk Southern heading southbound into town with 5 engines (I think only 2 were live): ![]() As the train passed, I noted that the 5th engine was cleaner, and perhaps a bit different than the other 4. I believe that it is one of the newer ones, though I'm not up to date on my engine styles. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good shot of it. Here's the 100% crop of #5 in the train: ![]() Can anybody identify this?

OK, I forgot the Santa Fe part....
Well, after 2 NS northbounds passed, a southbound NS train made its way past (bad lighting or I'd have a shot of that as well), and then this was spotted in the distance.... ![]() As it passed, I got this shot: ![]() An older Santa Fe along with a more modern BNSF engine, headed north with a load of empty flatcars.

Nice Shots. Why did'nt you shot a closer shot of the BNSF blue bonnet train?
As far as the cleaner unit, NS has recently gotten around to paint a lot of their units that were just in primer. Can't tell what kind of unit that is in your picture though. Kaine |

I didn't like the images I got on the Northbounds, due to poor lighting. But I'll throw one in anyway - here's Santa Fe #6749:

Judging from the way the front looks and the way the windshield is, I would believe it is one of the new SD70M-2 locomotives. Here is a pic of one that I took a week back:

YES!! That's it - it had that same extension on the cab and I believe that the fuel tank is shaped the same as well. I didn't notice it being different until it was already past, and I didn't have a chance (or didn't think of it) to get the shot.
Is it DC, or AC?

It is DC. Heres a link with all the specs on the SD70M-2: http://www.gmemd.com/en/locomotive/na_freight/sd70m-2/
I really like the way they look....very sturdy and hefty.

Great shots guys...haven't seen one of those new SD-70's yet...probably too new for mountain service. Don't want to scratch that bright new paint.
