Default 2006 Braves Spring Training Opening Day

The Atlanta Braves Spring Training season games started today. It was an incredibly brilliant cloudless day. The big guys played only a couple of innings then the minor leaguers came in so even Braves fans might not know some of these guys.

#1 - Horacio Ramirez was the starting pitcher -- this is the first pitch of the game

#2 - Jonathan Schuerholz is the son of Braves general manager John Schuerholz

#3 - Martin Prado is one of the Braves top prospects according to Baseball America

#4 - David Kelton

#5 - It's cropped radically but my 300mm + 1.4x TC reached the left fielder

#6 - Sean White

#7 - Adam LaRoch signing autographs for fans

Thanks for looking -- C&C always welcome

Excellent shots and the color looks fantastic. Cubs first game is tomorrow. There's no other sport like baseball.

A good friend helped with colors -- thanks Chris! Baseball's the greatest game in the world IMO but I'm sure some folks here would take issue with that.

Almost. #1 with 300, #s 2-6 with 300 + 1.4x TC and #7 with 70-200. EXIF is embedded.

Its 81 degrees today and your shots have me longing for a game to go to - but alas - all teams are on the road today. Nice work amigo.... hope to catch some games at the end of the month. I like the second shot... nice post hit timing. Cheers.

Unfortunately there wasn't a good play at home nor any of the bases or perhaps I'd have gotten a bit more action.

Marc - Bright sunshine like we often have here is both a blessing and a curse. There's no problem with having enough light but what there is casts harsh shadows. Dealing with shadows made by baseball caps is a challenge on days like yesterday. I have no complaints with how some fans dress (or don't) on warm days though .

Cheers Mark - Shots like that one of the batter coming out of the box are among my favorites. The weather here is perfect for baseball -- forecast of 79 degrees with partly cloudy skies for the game tomorrow. Wish you could be here.

Jerry I go to Winter Haven next wednesday. I can't wait to get there. I hope that the weather continues to be fantastic. The Indians have a lot of good looking rookies at camp at this time. This will be the first chance for me to shoot with my new 400 2.8. The service from Roberts Camera in Indiannapolis was terrific.

Walt - Weather doesn't get any nicer than what we had yesterday. We might have some cool evenings but more often than not you won't even need a long sleeve shirt on sunny afternoons this month. I think you're gonna love that piece of glass -- when shot from the pits, batters fill the frame and tall pitchers might not stay in it during their stretch. I've heard nothing but good things about Roberts.

jerry, why must u make me hate being stuck in a blizzard right now? IMO I need to be in FL right now for spring training, instead I'm stuck under snow waiting for april for baseball season to start! I am suddenly remembering why I drove so fast and so far the last few marches on my way to FL.

Very nice. What part of the field do you shoot from? My 15 year old played a few games in that stadium last year and it seemed farily friendly to photogs. Fortunatly since it was younger players there was no security and I got on the field to shoot them as a "coach".
