Thx for reading. I am transitioning to Nikon this week.

The main question in play regards my Real Estate Interior work.
I use a Canon 5DmIII and Canon 16-35L f4 IS for this, formerly the 16-35L f2.8 II.

Price isn't a factor. T/S isn't either, b/c I must have AF.

Nikon 12-24mm f/4G ED-IF DX edit- crop lens, can't go there
Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED
Nikon 16-35mm f/4G ED VR II

I thought this was a slam dunk for the 2.8, but then I realized, sure it's the best lens available.
But I couldn't use filters on it.

Eventually, D810/D750 combo. For now, just a D810.
I basically only shoot houses, portrait, event....
I am thinking of this lineup:

14-24 2.8 or ______ - real estate and car shows
35 1.4 Art - portrait / event
85 1.4 Nikon - portrait

MAYBE long term, I'd get a 24-70 for when I want extreme versatility, I'd rock the 85 on one body, and the zoom on the other.

Any thoughts will be appreciated!
Thank you!

How wide do you shoot with 5d3 + 16-35L?

If mostly toward 16, go for 14-24.

If mostly toward 35, go for 16-35.

Its great lens. I'm not really a prime lens guy. But I got it for night sky and star shots and it works great. Yah I love it. :)

How you liking the 85 1.4?
I considering it for portraits
Currently have the sigma 50 art and the Nikon 135.
While I still LOVE the sigma art, Sadly I'm a bit disappointed in the 135 (no where near the 135L in my opinion)

I heard that about the Nikon 135.

The 85 1.4 is dynamite. And not as heavy as the 85L. AF is faster and more reliable.

The 58 1.4 deserves a look too. It's rendering is more like the 50L.

20 1.8 is within reach. Working out a trade now.

A bit late to the party, but just in case anyone else saw this thread: you can use filters on the 14-24mm with 3rd party accessories. Last I saw there were at least 2 options and a 3rd in development (that was about 2 years ago when I considered going back to Nikon).

How embarrassing, 35 f1.4 art and 85f1.4G are the best primes on my D800.

current lineup:
16-35 VR use for real estate
20 1.8 G ED
35 1.4 A
50 1.8 G
85 1.4 G
24-70 2.8 G ED - not getting any use. prime addict.

thinking about selling off my 50 and 24-70 and adding the 58.
I carry two bodies for weddings

thinking:
20/35 for tight/reception
35/58 for getting ready
58/85 for formals

I'd like to toss in my vote for the 58 1.4 as well, coming as a former 50L owner. I just got the lens 2 days ago and its really a beautiful lens. Despite reviews and thoughts on price, its really a great replacement for my beloved 50L. Feels the same as when I was shooting with the 50L, but I must say it feels sharper wide-open, contrary to what most reviews saying the opposite. Its a very niche lens and most won't see the value in spending $1K over the 50 1.4, but if you know why you'r getting it, then its worth every penny. The 85 1.4 is definitely next on my list. I tried it out in the store when I went to buy the 58 and was really impressed with the sharpness wide open and the bokeh was very smooth.
